All the banks will remain closed for only six days in February 2023, i.e. the holiday list includes four Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays. There are no festivals falling this month.
Every state will have special public holidays accordingly. Customers are advised to plan their bank-related work as per the bank holidays.
Customers who must go to the bank themselves to complete the work are the ones who are most affected by the bank’s closure. Customers will be relieved to learn that online banking services will continue to operate on weekends. Due to RBI’s recent implementation of new rules, NEFT and other internet channels are also operational on holidays.
RBI bank holidays are placed under three brackets – Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act; Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday; and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. Banks will also remain closed in the various parts of the country due to local festivals and occasions. However, not all banks in the country will remain closed on such occasions.
Banks in India are usually shut on public holidays. There are certain bank holidays that are state-specific and some where banks throughout the country are shut. All-India holidays include Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15), and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2). Festivals like Diwali, Christmas, Eidh, Guru Nanak Jayanthi, Good Friday, and so on are also bank holidays. Further, second and fourth Saturdays of the month are holidays.
