NEXT Examination will be conducted in 2023 in association with AIIMS (New Delhi ) under supervision of NMC. Mock tests will be set up. NMC india should issue prospectus soon.

The medical final year exit exam was introduced to medical education by the government in 2020. It will be necessary to pass in order to obtain a practising license. In a July 2021 notification, the medical education regulator, NMC, said that the test would be conducted in the first half of 2023 and a mock test would be released before that to get the students used to the pattern. The National Board of Examination (NBE) will conduct the exam.

Aspirants of the MCI screening exam and NEET PG have been demanding clarification on the exam pattern and exact date of the test. While any official confirmation is yet to be out, NEXT will act as both a graduation exam for students seeking licences and an examination for entry into postgraduate medical programmes.

As per latest news, the government has invoked provisions of the NMC Act by which the time limit for conducting the National Exit Test (NExT) exam for the final year MBBS students has been extended till September 2024.

Though there is no official word so far that the NExT exam will not be held in 2023, the Union Health Ministry’s gazette notification on September 23 invoking section 59 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act states the regulations for conducting the exam are yet to be framed and formation of examination cell is under process.

According to the NMC Act, the commission has to conduct a common final year undergraduate medical examination NExT within three years of it coming into force. The Act came into force in September 2020. The NExT will serve as a common qualifying final year MBBS exam, a licentiate exam to practise modern medicine and for merit-based admission to postgraduate courses and a screening exam for foreign medical graduates who want to practise in India.

  1. What is NExT?

NExT means National Exit Test. It will be conducted for final-year MBBS students for admission to PG medical courses.

  2. Why is NExT conducted?

According to the NMC Act, NExT will serve as a common qualifying final-year MBBS exam, a licentiate exam to practise modern medicine and for merit-based admission to postgraduate courses and a screening exam for foreign medical graduates who want to practice in India.

The proposed NExT exam will serve as an entrance test for admission to postgraduate medical courses, a licentiate exam to practice modern medicine, a common qualifying final-year MBBS exam, and a screening test for foreign medical graduates. Thus it will substitute exams like NEET PG and FMGE.
