Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao directed officials to relax the norms: The state government backtracked on the “tough eligibility norms” prescribed for recruitment of teachers in residential educational institutions, following opposition from students and the Telangana Joint Action Committee. The previous notification issued by TS Public Service Commission had prescribed 60 per cent marks in graduation to be eligible for the teachers’ recruitment exam, besides three years teaching experience, which triggered sharp protests.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao directed officials to relax the norms. Now, candidates with 50 per cent marks(45% marks for SC,ST,BC,PHC Candidates) and without teaching experience can take the test. However, the government stuck to its stand on candidates writing the exam in English, citing Supreme Court orders that teaching posts in English medium should have teachers who have pursued B.Ed in English medium. Some candidates wanted the exam to be held in Telugu. The National Council for Teachers Education, the apex regulatory body of teaching education, prescribes 50 per cent marks as eligibility.
