JBAR/ RBSK/ School Health Guidelines for De-worming Day

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has issued the School Health Guidelines for De-worming Day. In this article we are given more details of School Health Guidelines for De-worming Day.

Activities at the District level :

  • Conduct district task force meeting under the chairmanship of District Collector with all line departments on 22nd Nov 2020.
  • Allot areas of supervision to all program officers as it is being done in the case of PPI program to monitor the deworming program,
  • Provide the POL budget from available school health program Rs. 1000/- to each District Program Officer who is having Govt. Vehicles and Rs. 1500/- to other POs who are not having Govt. Vehicles to monitor the program.
  • Provide mobility budget from available school health program Rs. 1000/- to PHC/UHC Medical Officer.
  • Ensure distribution of drugs as per requirement to all PHC/UHCs.
  • Ensure coordination between MO-PHC/UHCs and MEOs/CDPOs of the Mandal for proper distribution of the drug in the Mandal.
  • Make necessary arrangements to collect reports from the periphery, compile and submit to the state on the same day.
  • Kindly conduct press meets along with DEOs, PO (RVM) and PO(ICDS) involving print and electronic media to brief the importance of the de-worming g day before and after the event.i. 
  • Officers to be Involved: RDM&HS, Commissioners of Municipal Corporations,  CEO-ZP, PD, IKP, PD-ICDS,   DEO, PO-RVM,  DCHS, Municipal Commissioners,  Superintendent of Medical Colleges,  All Program Officers, 104, 108 Coordinators,  JBAR-Coordinators (Health & Education SSA)),  DD Adult Education,  Municipal Health Officers,  JD SWD,  DD (TWD),  DD(BCW),  AD (Disabled),  Minorities Welfare,  Dy.EOs, & SOs of RVM.
  • Instruct Dy EOs/CDPOs Sectoral officers to monitor and supervise the respective area’s schools/AWC regarding the importance of the program.
  • Instruct MEOs /CPDOs/MRPs/Mandal coordinators /special teachers to involve in the program and to cover all schools (KGBV and Worksite schools).
  • Ensure coordination between MEOs, CDPOs and MO-PHC/UHCs of the Mandal for proper    distribution of the drug in the Mandal, and to cover all schools/AWCs
  • The DM&HOs are requested to meet the District Collector along with PO(RVM)after preparing Action Plan in this regard for making this program a grand success.

Certain instructions to Municipal Commissioners of Municipal Corporations:

  • Instruct Health Officers to take up the deworming program in municipal areas,
  • Instruct DI of schools and MRPs to take up the deworming program in all municipal schools.
  • Municipal Health Officers and DI of schools can coordinate with JBAR Coordinators in the District.
  • Instruct Health Officers to take up the deworming program in municipal areas,
  • 4. The district-level coordination meeting should involve all the officers.

Activities at Cluster and At CHNC: 

To prepare a Cluster level action plan for the distribution of drugs/Planning & Monitoring to conduct the Deworming Day.
Chairman for Convergence:  Spl. Officer (District level Officer)
Responsible Officers:  SPHO, DyEO &CDPO
Supportive Staff:  DLMT, All Supervisory staff of Health & ICDS.

At Mandal:

1. To prepare the Mandal level action plan for the distribution of drugs and to conduct the Deworming Day. Instruct MPDOs to take up the deworming program in the Mandal.

2. Instruct MDOs to coordinate/converge with all line departments for effective implementation of the program in the Mandal.

Chairman for Convergence:  MPDO,
Responsible Officers:  Medical officers and MEOs
Supportive Staff:  CHOs, MPHEOs, HEOs, CRPs, Mandal Coordinators   Sakshara Bharati, Welfare Officers, Anganwadi center, MPHS (M/F), MPHA (M/F), NGOs working in the Mandal.

At Village / Habitation:  

1.At Anganwadi Centers: To prepare an action plan for the distribution of drugs and to organize a de-worming day in their Village/Habitation/Anganwadi center.
Chairman for Convergence: EO (Gram Panchayat),
Responsible Officers: ANM & AWT.
Supportive Staff: Village Coordinator (Sakshara Bharathi), VRO &VS, ASHAs and any NGO working in the village.

2.At School: Chairman for Convergence: SMC Chairman.
Responsible Officers: HM & Health Provider. (Adopted Paramedical)
Supportive Staff: All Teachers, staff of the school, SMC members, ASHAs, Village Coordinator, VRO, VS and any NGO working in the Village.

Head Masters / Principals are requested to see that the following activities are conducted in their schools:

  • Educate students on the importance of de-worming activity from 20th Nov 2020 during assembly.
  • Conduct Parents –Teachers Association (PTA) meeting on 21st Nov 2020.
  • Adoption of students to teachers to have better concentration.
  • Ensure 100 percent attendance on the day of activity.
  • Ensure sanitation in and around the school premises.
  • Ensure the availability of running water to available toilets.
  • Ensure the availability of water and soap to demonstrate hand washing.
  • Provide safe drinking water with disposable glasses.
  • Provide a balanced diet during mid-day meals in a congenial atmosphere.
  • On 03.12.2013 Head Masters/Principals are requested to see that to Ensure proper handwashing of all students with soap and water,
  • Provide mid-day meal in clean utensils,
  • After the meal administration deworming tablets to be given first to teachers, workers, cook, Kamati, watchman and then to students, 13. Provide treatment for the control of scabies and head lice and educate on its usage.

Certain instructions to Medical Officers:

  • Medical officers are instructed to prepare school wise student list in coordination with CDPO, MEO/MRP for proper distribution of Drugs.
  • Medical officers have to supply a sufficient number of CPM/Cetrizine and Prednisolone tablets to all paramedical staff to  treat any emergency cases along with De-worming drugs,
  • Rs.1000/- will be provided by  DM&HO for the mobility of MO  and his team to utilize on the  day of drug administration and MO is instructed to keep emergency drugs and IV fluids with him/her,
  • MOS has to supervise the program and also to attend any emergency.
  • MOs are instructed to inform to 104 and 108 coordinators regarding this program and to take their support,
  • If any adverse reactions, need to be intimated to DM&HO/JBARC’s (Health/SSA),
  • MOs are instructed to coordinate with MDO, MEO, CDPO and other line departments for successful implementation of the program.
  • Conduct one practical session for all paramedical staff on hand washing.

Activities to be taken up for De-worming Day Before the Day of De-worming: i.e. on 02.12.2020

  • Coordination of Health & School, ICDS Staff to mobilize the School Children & Adolescents for the De-worming Day and make sure 100% attendance.
  • Involve formal & informal local leaders also to make the program successful. 
  • Inform 108 &104 Service to attend the emergency by giving top priority.
  • Ensure availability of Drugs. 
  • Make sure School &AWC premises, toilets are clean.
  • Make sure the provision of safe drinking water.
  • Make sure the provision of soap and water to demonstrate.
  • Create a festive atmosphere. 
  • The teachers are requested to obtain District Coordinator, Phone Numbers to inform in case of any emergency.
  • The teachers and public are informed to utilize 108 in case of emergency and inform to the Coordinators.

On the Day of De-worming:

The Concerned Teachers, School, and medical team should mobilize students, parents, and people to make all arrangements for the administration of Drugs.  Emergency drugs to be kept ready to combat any adverse reaction if any.

The Concerned Anganwadi Staff and medical team should mobilize nonschool children & adolescents and parents and people make all arrangements for the administration of Drugs.  Emergency drugs to be kept ready to combat any adverse reaction if any.

Speak about Health Education to the School children and parents ie., personal hygiene /sanitation.

Speak about Health Education to the Non- School children, adolescents, and parents ie., personal hygiene /sanitation.
10.00 AM to 01.00 PM
Create awareness about hand washes with soap, Balance Diet, Providing lunch in clean utensils.

Provide Lunch to the School Children in clean utensils and in a healthy atmosphere.

Administer De-worming tablets with safe drinking water first to teachers, MDM Staff, Higher class students and then to the lower class students. The tablets are to be chewed only after food and not swallowed.
2.00 PM to 3.00 PM
Administer De-worming tablets with safe drinking water, first Anganwadi staff and then to Adolescents & non-school children at AWC. The tablets are to be chewed only after food and not swallowed.
3.00 PM to 4.00 PM
Provide Drugs like Iron tablets, Vitamin Tablets, Antibiotics, etc., to the needy children who are already identified during screening. Create awareness of Scabies and lice.
3.00 PM to 4.00 PM
Provide Drugs like Iron tablets, Vitamin Tablets, etc., to needy children/ adolescents. Create awareness of Scabies and lice.
8.00 PM to 9.00 PM
Observe any reactions and attend immediately. After completion of activity send the report in prescribed format to the concerned PHC.

After the Day of De-worming: i.e. on 04.12.2020

  • Make sure that there is no reaction due to the administration of De-worming tablets.
  • School Health Guidelines for De-worming Day
  • Follow up the Children whether they have taken the given drugs. 
  • Consolidate and confirm the reports and furnish them to O/o. CH&FW from the Districts (jbar.state@gmail.com). 
  • Submit the voucher and SOEs to the district within 3 days.
