The INSPIRE Awards 2023 are now open for nominations on its official website. The INSPIRE Awards – MANAK means Million Minds Augmenting National Aspirations and Knowledge.

It is a flagship programme of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, in collaboration with the National Innovation Foundation – India (NIF). The awards are open to students in the age group of 10-15 years and studying in classes 6 to 10.

The last date for submitting nominations for INSPIRE Awards MANAK is 31-08-2023. The nominations are now open for the annual INSPIRE Awards 2023 at MANAK Web Portal and DST urge you to sensitize the students in your school and mobilize nominations in large numbers.

This is an ideal time for organizing idea competition amongst students of class 6th to 10th and age between 10 – 15 years, such that they get suitable time to think and deliver the most innovative idea to you.

This year DST, NIF and Govt of India have facilitated a submission of a maximum of five ideas or innovations per school through the online portal (www.inspireawards-dst.gov.in) till 31-08-2023 such that no meritorious idea gets ignored. They request you to please do not wait till last date.

INSPIRE Awards Eligibility

Here are the eligibility criteria for the INSPIRE Awards 2023:

  • The student must be in the age group of 10-15 years.
  • The student must be studying in classes 6 to 10.
  • The idea/innovation must be original and rooted in science and societal applications.
  • The idea/innovation must be feasible and have the potential to be implemented.

INSPIRE Awards Objective

The objective of the INSPIRE Awards – MANAK is to motivate students to develop original ideas/innovations rooted in science and societal applications. The awards aim to foster a culture of creativity and innovative thinking among school children.

INSPIRE Awards – MANAK

Under the INSPIRE Awards – MANAK, schools can nominate 5 best original ideas/innovations of students through the MANAK website. The nominations will be shortlisted by NIF, and the top 1,00,000 ideas will be awarded INR 10,000 each.

The shortlisted ideas will also be invited to participate in District Level Exhibition and Project Competitions (DLEPCs) and State Level Exhibition and Project Competitions (SLEPCs). The winners of the SLEPCs will be awarded a cash prize of INR 25,000 each.

The INSPIRE Awards – MANAK is looking for Science and Technology based ideas and innovations from millions of school students who are studying from class 6th to 10th across the country.

MANAK means Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge is an initiative to foster a culture of innovation and creative thinking amongst students to address societal needs through Science and Technology.

The INSPIRE Award – MANAK is being revamped and executed by DST and National Innovation Foundation-India to align it with the action plan for “Start-up India” initiative launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.

An opportunity for all state of our country to gear up and utilize remaining time until the above said deadline to catch up with states leading the way in INSPIRE Awards – MANAK 2023-24.

INSPIRE Awards MANAK million minds augmenting national aspiration and knowledge is a flagship program for promoting innovations amongst school children of the country.

INSPIRE is jointly implemented by department of science and technology government of India and national innovation foundation. To participate students of class 6 to 10 must submit their science and technology based ideas to their schools before the deadline.

In this million that is 10 lakh ideas will be scouted and one lakh students will be given a support of 10,000 rupees to develop prototypes exhibitions will be organized at state, district and national levels and incubation and mentoring of support will be provided to the students to their creative ideas.

‘Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research’ (INSPIRE) scheme is one of the flagship programmes of DST, Government of India. The INSPIRE Awards – MANAK, being executed by DST with NIF, an autonomous body of DST, aims to motivate students in the age group of 10-15 years and studying in classes 6 to 10.

The objective of the INSPIRE scheme is to target one million original ideas/innovations rooted in science and societal applications to foster a culture of creativity and innovative thinking among school children.

Under this scheme, schools can nominate 2-5 best innovative ideas online through this website. DST India appreciate the efforts being taken by teachers and school in maintaining continuity in disseminating education amongst students during the pandemic crisis in the country.

A continued focus on innovations by school students is equally important, mainly because Science and Technology based ideas and innovations can play a major role in getting people out of this crisis and make country self-reliant (Aatm Nirbhar).

How to Apply for INSPIRE Awards?

Necessary Details: First, prepare the following details before going to the computer center:

  • School code
  • The name of the principal,
  • Phone number,
  • School e-mail id (This is very important) All subsequent replies will be via this email.
  • Number of students in the school
  • The total number of teachers in the school
  • Number of science teachers in the school

Documents required for Inspire Awards Nomination

The following are the documents that must be submitted along with the nomination form:

  • A letter of nomination from the school principal.
  • A brief description of the idea/innovation.
  • A video or presentation of the idea/innovation.
  • Any other relevant documents.

School Registration Procedure:

  • First you need to open the website of INSPIRE Awards – www.inspireawards-dst.gov.in.
  • When the web page opens, click on the School authority button on the right side of page.
  • Click on the One Time Registration button on the new page that opens immediately.
  • Fill in the school details as they appear on the page.
  • Then press the Save button.
  • Again asks for some more details about the school. After completing the application, finally click on the Save OK or SUBMIT Forward to DA button. (DA means District Authority)
  • Immediately comes the application number. For example APP256783 Acknowledgment will be downloaded immediately by clicking on the Generate Acknowledgment button.
  • It should be taken in print.

As the application for school registration has been completed with this. You have successfully sent the application. The information comes to the e-mail you entered in the application. It can be found in the inbox of the mail.

How to set a password

Another message will be sent to your mail one or two days after the above program is completed. It contains information that your application has been accepted. It also has a User Id assigned to the school. Ex zpmhbd400. Below this, a line with nonsensical letters underlined with a blue line. Double-clicking on this line will open a page on the Inspire website.

In it we have to try the user ID we found in the mail. Type Headmaster1# in the Create Password field and type Headmaste1# again in the Retype Password field. Type the following code as usual and press the OK / SUBMIT button. With that we have set the password

Immediately another page opens. In it you have to type the user ID and password (Head masterl#) again. Then press the LOGIN button. The page that opens immediately is called the Dashboard. This page contains beacons with some images. If we click on the Log out option at the top left hand side we will come out of the Inspire website.

How students enroll?

Each school can nominate a maximum of 5 ideas/innovations of the students based on the degree of novelty, social applicability, environmental implications, potential impact, scope for diffusion through commercial and/or non-commercial channels, relevance to existing government schemes etc. Not based on the student class.

To start the nomination of students who are having creative technological ideas/innovations, click Student Nomination. To see the nominated student name and other details, click View Nominated Students By the School.

Necessary Details of Student: Following details of students need to prepare before going to the computer center to enroll.

  • Passport photos of students (6-10 per class per class
  • The first page of their bank account is Xerox
  • Student Full Name,
  • Father’s name,
  • Student Aadhaar Number,
  • Student’s date of birth,
  • Caste
  • Guide Teacher Name
  • First we need to open the website www.inspireawards-dst.gov.in.
  • When the web page opens, click on the School authority button on the right.
  • Press the LOGIN button on the new page that opens immediately.
  • Immediately another page will open in which you have to type the user ID and password (Headmaster).
  • Then press the LOGIN button.
  • The page that opens immediately is called the Dash board.
  • If you click on the button (Forward Nominations to DA) with the pen in your hand, a table will appear to enter the students’ names, father’s name and Aadhaar number.
  • After entering everything, click on the Nominate button at the bottom of the table.

How add Student Details?

Now, all the details of the students you have registered will appear. The first row has a + sign at the end of the row with student details. Click on it to enter the student’s caste, date of birth, guide teacher’s name, etc. Next to the project name, write School inspire project. Then you need to upload a photo of that student. Then press the save button.

Now you will see again the table with the basic details of the first five students. However, the row with the first student details in this table turns green. Press the + sign at the end of the row with the student details in the second row and enter the student’s caste, date of birth and name of the guide teacher, etc. Then you need to upload a photo of that student. Then press the save button.

Now you will see again the table with the basic details of the first five students. However the row with the details of the second student in this table will also turn green. In the same way, the details of five students should be entered. The whole table will finally turn green.

Click on the Forward Nominations to DA button at the bottom of the table. Finally click on the Generate Acknowledgment. You can print a table with the basic details of 5 students.

Instructions to School Head:

We have set Headmaster# as the password. It is advisable to write down the user ID (obtained by mail) and the application number in the diary. Next year just register the names of the students. Repeated school registration is not required. Once obtained the user ID, we can log in with the password which we set.

Login to the website again in 2 or 3 months and find out the details of the sanctioned awards by clicking on the option in the dashboard. The user ID and password must be typed when logging into the website. Capital letters should be in capital letters and small letters should be in small letters.

Inspiring Innovators of tomorrow – Stages in INSPIRE Awards.

Stage 1- Awareness and capacity building of District, State and School level functionaries across the country through regional workshops, audio-visual tools and literature.

Stage 2- Organising internal idea competitions in schools and nomination of two to three best original ideas, in any Indian language, by the respective Principal Headmaster online through E-MIAS (E-Management of INSPIRE Awards MANAK Scheme) portal.

Stage 3- Registration of new/unregistered 2 schools on E-MIAS portal.

Stage 3- Shortlisting of top 1,00,000 (one lakh) ideas, with potential to address societal needs through Science & Technology by NIF.

Stage 4- Disbursement of INSPIRE Award of INR 10,000 to the accounts of short listed students through Direct benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme.

Stage 5- Organising District Level Exhibition and Project Competition (DLEPC) by District State authorities and shortlisting of 10,000 best ideas/innovations for State Level Exhibition and Project Competitions (SLEPC).

Stage 6- Organising State Level Exhibition & Project Competition (SLEPC) for further shortlisting of top 1,000 ideas/innovations for the National Level Exhibition and Project Competition (NLEPC).

At this stage, NIF will facilitate mentoring support to students for development of prototypes in coordination with reputed academic and technology institutions of the country.

Stage 7- Selection of ideas/innovations will be based on novelty, social applicability, environment friendliness, user friendliness and comparative advantage over the existing similar technologies.

Stage 8- Showcasing 1,000 best ideas/innovating at the National Level Exhibition & Project Competition (NLEPC) and shortlisting of top 60 innovations for national awards and future directions.

Stage 9- Consideration of top 60 ideas/innovations by NIF for product/process development 10 and their linkages with other schemes of NIF/DST and their display at the Annual Festival Innovation and Entrepreneurship (FINE).
