SCERT Telangana has prepared the Subject wise Period Plans 2023 and Class wise Period Plans 2023 under the Tholimettu Programme 2023 or The First Step Programme 2023 on behalf of FLN Mission by the subject experts.
Candidates who want to download the subject wise, class wise Period plans can download from the given links. You might have observed Worksheet under the exercise part.
But our Maths Textbooks especially primary level are made in the form of workbooks with content and activities. So you can use those activities for second 45 minutes (Second Session) to practice for the students.
Daily/ Period Plans should be prepared and executed by oneself in the blow pattern. After the children have solved the problems, they should check their notebooks and check their level from time to time and make appropriate changes in the teaching and learning plans and implement them.
Detailed period plans covering one Bridge activity and It is to be transacted in 5 periods) and one unit and it is to be transacted in 10-15 periods. All these Period plans are in alignment with our Discourse Oriented Pedagogy and aim at achieving the specific learning outcomes prescribed for Classes I-V.
A number of activities are suggested to make the classroom environment learner friendly. Teachers are suggested to ensure the involvement of all the students in the classroom activities.
The TLM suggested can be easily procured by the teacher from his/her surroundings. Teachers are instructed to go through the period plans beforehand and make necessary modifications so as to suit to the specific needs of their individual classrooms.
Further it is suggested that they keep the TLM ready before entering the classroom for effective transaction of the classroom activities.
It is hoped that by the time teachers complete the transaction of Unit -1 following the period plans they will be habituated to write and transact effective period plans for the remaining units.
Teachers should to read all chapters carefully and plan accordingly before you enter the classroom. We feel that it would greatly benefit classroom transaction if you would solve all the problems given in a chapter before teaching it.
There is also the expectation that you would arrange for whatever teaching learning material (TLM) is required for building concepts, for e.g., a meter rope for length, one litre bottles for capacity etc.,

Teacher needs to go through the text book and teacher hand book before they begin to write a period plan. Annual plan and weekly plans are to be referred to decide the scope of the topic to be transacted in that period.
Further, they should refer to period plans of the previous week (if any). The learning outcomes for the period are to be identified. Then, they should refer to various sources and brainstorm to decide the suitable activities to achieve those learning outcomes.
Period Plan
A period plan is the lesson plan prepared by a teacher for each one of the teaching periods. Planning lessons in a systematic way helps a teacher to think about the lesson in advance and enables the teacher to anticipate the problems before they happen during the lesson. Planning gives a structure to the lesson and it guides us like a map to follow.
Lesson plan gives confidence to teachers as they organize the subject matter or content in a better way so that the lesson runs smoothly. Lesson plan helps maintain attention and interest of the learners and minimizes disturbances.
Teachers have the pressure of completing the syllabus as per schedule but at the same time they are also responsible for making language learning enjoyable one.
Writing a daily Period Plan does not mean that it is done just before teaching the lesson or the night before the lesson is taught.
A Period Plan should be ready long before that because a teacher needs to think of a number of tasks and activities and to prepare teaching aids, the sequence of activities and the time needed for each one of the activities.
Period planning begins with writing the objectives of the lesson what the teacher wants the learner to achieve by the end of the lesson.
These objectives should be spelled out as what the students will be able to do in terms of observable behavior. Once the objectives are listed out clearly then the teacher can think of aspects like.,
- What will the students learn in that lesson?
- What is focus/skill taught?
- Are all the activities selected necessary and suitable to the level of the learners?
- What materials and teaching aids are used and why?
- What is the feed-back/evaluation for the lesson?
Then the teacher can write a detailed Period Plan, and implement it in the classroom. After the lesson is taught the teacher can reflect on the success of the lesson i.e. what worked as per the plan and what did not work and then use this information to prepare a better lesson plan for the next lesson. Teachers should also note down the students’ performance after every period.
Planning
A plan is like a map. Why do we use maps? To find our way to a place. In order to reach a place, we need two reference points. First, we should know where we are, and secondly we should know where we want to go.
Without the knowledge of the two, it would be difficult to chart out our path. In the same way we plan our work to reach our goals. Planning is organizing our work.
We should have an idea about what we are going to achieve. While organizing our work, we should have an idea of what we want to achieve. We should also take into consideration the resources that are available with us.
Planning can happen at various stages in our teaching career. Planning should be at macro level and micro level. The macro level planning refers to the larger units of planning and includes our planning of work for the entire academic year or at least one term.
The books we use to teach are divided into smaller parts called units. A unit is a comprehensive part that deals with one topic or theme in detail and this has to be taught in a similar manner.
In this unit the micro teaching techniques are also discussed. This unit also focuses on certain assessment procedures that are being practiced in the high schools.
Objectives of Planning
- By the end of this unit the student teachers will be able to Plan their work for the year, unit and period.
- Write an Annual plan.
- Write a unit Plan.
- Prepare a period plan.
- Understand the importance of assessment.
- Use formative assessment tools.
- Prepare a formative assessment question paper.
- Prepare weightage tables and blue-print for the question paper.
- Prepare a question paper for Summative Assessment.
- Take feed-back from peer scholars.
- Use the recording procedures that are in practice.
Do you need to plan if you have a course (text) book? Many teachers will find themselves having to use a course book.
There are advantages and disadvantages to having a course book – but although they do provide a ready-made structure for teaching material, it is very unlikely the material was written for the teachers’ particular students.
Each class is different and teachers need to be able to adapt material from whatever source so that it is suitable for their students. A course book can certainly help planning, but it cannot replace the teacher’s own ideas for what he or she wants to achieve in a class.
What are the principles of planning?
AIMS – considering realistic goals for the lesson, not too easy but not too difficult. You may find the following checklist useful:
- What do the students know already?
- What do the students need to know?
- What did you do with the students in the previous class?
- How well do the class work together?
- How motivated are the students?
VARIETY – an important way of getting and keeping the students engaged and interested.
FLEXIBILITY – expect the unexpected! Things don’t always go to plan in most lessons. Experienced teachers have the ability to cope when things go wrong.
It’s useful when planning to build in some extra and alternative tasks and exercises. Also teachers need to be aware of what is happening in the classroom.
Students may raise an interesting point and discussions could provide unexpected opportunities for language work and practice. In these cases it can be appropriate to branch away from the plan.
Effective lesson planning is the basis of effective teaching. A plan is a guide for the teacher as to where to go and how to get there. However – don’t let the plan dominate – be flexible in your planning so that when the opportunities arise you can go with the flow.
Planning is done for a year for each subject. Syllabus comprises of some units. We write unit plans for all the units. Each unit is divided into workable periods.
Why is planning important?
One of the most important reasons to plan is that the teacher needs to identify his or her aims for the lesson. Teachers need to know what it is they want their students to be able to do at the end of the lesson that they couldn't do before. It gives the teacher the opportunity to predict possible problems and therefore consider solutions, it makes sure that lesson is balanced and appropriate for class, It gives teacher confidence and planning is generally good practice and a sign of professionalism

In the context of teaching and learning, a period plan is a schedule or plan that outlines the activities or tasks that will be completed during a specific time period, such as a week, a month, or a term. The purpose of a period plan in the teaching and learning process is to organize and plan lessons and activities in a way that helps students to achieve the learning outcomes or objectives of the course or program.
A period plan in teaching and learning might include details about the specific topics or concepts that will be covered, the methods of instruction that will be used, and any assessments or evaluations that will be conducted. It might also include information about any resources or materials that will be used, such as textbooks, videos, or online resources.
Period plans can be useful for teachers because they help to ensure that lessons and activities are well-organized and align with the learning objectives of the course. They can also help teachers to identify any potential conflicts or issues that may need to be addressed, and to plan for additional support or resources if necessary.
For students, period plans can provide a clear overview of what will be covered in each lesson or activity, and can help them to plan and prepare for assessments or evaluations. They can also help students to stay on track and stay organized, which can be particularly important when studying online or in a hybrid learning environment.
