The TGPSC Group 1 exam is a highly competitive examination conducted by the Telangana State Public Service Commission for recruitment to various Group 1 posts in the state of Telangana. The exam consists of a preliminary test, main examination, and an interview.

The syllabus for the TGPSC Group 1 exam is vast and covers a wide range of subjects. The syllabus for the preliminary test includes General Studies, Mental Ability, and English.

The main examination covers subjects such as General Essay, History, Culture, and Geography of India and its Heritage, Indian Constitution, Political Systems, and Governance, and Economic and Social Development.

It’s important to note that the Telangana state government has recently announced the changes in the Group 1 exam pattern, the changes will be in effect from the next notification. The new pattern will consist of only two papers, General Studies and Social Studies.

Telangana Group 1 Exam Syllabus Details

The first step towards preparing for any competitive examination is to understand the scheme of the examination and have a thorough knowledge of the syllabus.

Here, this article aims to create awareness about the syllabus and list the references for the TGPSC Group-I.

TGPSC Group 1 is a three stage examination consisting of Preliminary examination, Main Examination and Personality Test.

Preliminary exam is an objective type examination consisting of a single paper titled General Studies and Mental Ability. Mains Examination is a descriptive examination consisting of the six papers with each paper having a weightage of 150 marks.

Personality Test is an oral interview for 100 marks. The preliminary exam is qualifying in nature, i.e., one must clear the exam to appear for the Main examination. The final selection will be based on the marks scored in the Mains examination and Personality test.

Group 1 Syllabus

Preliminary Examination: The syllabus for the examination along with the reference books and strategy is given below: Current Affairs:  Regional, National & International: Current affairs is not a subject in itself, it is only the latest updates and developments in a subject.

A thorough reading and follow up of the latest current events from a standard newspaper is essential to score well in the examination. Also, a general doubt a student has with respect to current affairs is the time frame for coverage; six months up to the examination date is sufficient for the examination.

Recommended Resources: International, national and regional issues, International Relations and Events. International relations is study of the image nations have about each other and the way nations interact with each other.

As far as exams of State Public Service Commissions are concerned, the focus is usually on national and regional issues.

Therefore, a brief idea of all major international events till date, like – the formation of the UN, the two world wars and so on and India’s relations with other countries, especially its neighbours like – agreements signed with other countries and so on are important. General Science: India’s Achievements in Science and Technology: Basics of physics, chemistry and biology along with the developments in space technology, defence technology and bio-technology in India must be covered for this segment.

All important milestones in terms of launches (satellites/missiles) that India achieved should be read along with all important institutions constituted for research and development in these fields, their location and purpose.

With just a few days left for the Telangana State Public Service Commission’s (TGPSC) Group One preliminary test, experts advise the aspirants to practice as many multiple choice based questions as possible in different subject areas.

The focus should be mainly on the weak points rather than strong areas and the candidates should avoid preparing for new topics at the last minute.

The Group One services preliminary test is scheduled to be conducted in all district centres on the notified date from 10.30 am to 1 pm. The TGPSC had notified 563 Group 1 posts and this is the first Group 1 examination being conducted after the formation of Telangana State.

During the test, reading all instructions on the question paper is necessary so is properly bubbling the text booklet number on the OMR sheet. Experts suggest that candidates should not wait till the end to bubble all answers at once on the OMR sheet.

Sure shot answers should be bubbled first followed by questions where the candidate is 75 per cent or 50 per cent sure of the answer.

To ensure that there is no wrong circle bubbling, candidates must cross verify the question number and answer number on the OMR sheet while bubbling.

If candidates have a dilemma on the options for a question, they can use the elimination method so as to arrive at an answer. The aspirants should strictly avoid thinking about the cut off marks in the examination hall.

Current affairs is one of the important topics for the test and aspirants should revise crucial international events, Supreme Court judgments, constitution amendments among other areas that had occurred between January 1 and December. Likewise, they should have a strong grip on all current affairs and events that happened from January to September.

Candidates should avoid burning midnight oil before the actual test as sleep pattern is important. They should practice being an early riser and maintain a proper sleep cycle in order to avoid last minute rush on the day of the test.

The TGPSC has already hosted the hall tickets for the test on its website www.TGPSC.gov.in. The aspirants have been advised to visit the centre a day before the test so as to get familiar with the route and the centre.
