UPSC Prelims Application Form
Candidates have to fill the online application form. The online application forms are a two-step process – registration and filling of online application forms known as Part I and Part II. After filling the online application forms, candidates would be required to pay the fees.
Select your exam center. Upload your photo, signature, and photo identity proof in the recommended format and size.
Accept the declaration and submit your application form. The application process will not be complete without application fee payment. The application fee can be submitted via Credit card/debit card/Internet banking.

Apart from this, only Indian citizens can apply for IAS, IFS (Indian Foreign Services) and IPS services. For other posts, the following candidates are also eligible to apply, provided they have the necessary certificate issued by the Government of India.

(a) Educational qualification: The candidates must have a degree from an esteemed University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification, to appear in the exam.
(b) Age limit: Candidates age between 21-39 years of age can appear for the prelims exams. There is age relaxation for the reserved category.
UPSC Exam Pattern
The preliminary test comprises of Paper-I and Paper-II. In the objective type, multiple choice questions are asked that carry a total of 400 marks. In the general studies paper – II, a candidate has to qualify with a minimum of 33 percent marks.
Negative marks for every question is one-third of the marks assigned to that question. The questions in Paper-I come from seven different test areas like 1) Science and Technology, 2) history and culture, 3) geography, 4) Indian Polity, 5) Indian economy, 6) environment and ecology and 7) current events of national and international importance.
A registration number will be generated which candidate has to note down. The applicant has to pay the fees and select the center, upload scanned photograph and signature.
Selection Process
The UPSC recruitment consists of a three-level exam including prelims, main and interview. Candidates have to qualify all three levels. The candidates shortlisted after prelims examination will be called in for the Main exam.
