Mentioning poor knowledge of English among students, the Telangana government has instructed teachers with the requisite education qualifications in the subject to submit their documents by April 4th. 2015 The decision has been taken after several surveys highlighted a shortage of qualified and competent English teachers in government schools.
With the Telangana government planning to introduce free education from kindergarten to post-graduation, popularly known as ‘KG to PG Free and Compulsory Education Scheme’, only those who submit these details will be considered for appointments under the scheme.
According the director and commissioner of school education, Telangana State, Education department officials want to know the number of teachers who have completed their intermediate or graduation in English medium. Once Officers identified, they will be analysed and appointed for the KG to PG scheme. These teachers will also be considered for the 2,217 zilla parishad and mandal praja parishad schools in the state.
According to the district information system for education (DISE) data 2014-15, there are a total of 9,359 English teachers across the state. Teachers have to submit their education certificates, training certificates, experience certificates, etc. to the education department.
Eligible Teachers are instructed to submit their qualification details by April 4th, 2015. Once that is done, Education Department officers will start analysing their credentials. Although most of the teachers have completed their education in Telugu medium, there are few who have been taking special training in the English language. This process is to identify those who have subject-wise knowledge in English according to the education officers.
However, the Telangana state is yet to decide on the number of teachers who are likely to be appointed. The KG to PG scheme is scheduled to begin from the academic year 2016-17.The Teachers those who were studied their school or college level in English medium, they have to give their particulars to the deputy educational officers in the purpose of introduce KG to PG schools in Telangana state.
