Mission Indradhanush Health Mission in AP and Telangana, A health mission known as ‘Mission Indradhanush’ was launched by the Union Government of India with an aim to cover all those children who are unvaccinated or are partially vaccinated against seven vaccine-preventable diseases which include diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B, by the end of the year 2020.

So, To achieve full immunization coverage for all children by 2020 through a Catch-Up campaign. The Mission Indradhanush, depicting seven colours of the rainbow, aims to cover all those children by 2020 who are either unvaccinated or are partially vaccinated against seven vaccine-preventable diseases which include diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B.

The Mission is launched on Good Governance Day (25th December) to mark the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Shri Madan Mohan Malaviya and birthday of Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Universal Immunization Programme(Mission Indradhanush) Programme to be started from July 16, 2018

Mission Indradhanush Dates:
Dates in July: 16,17,19, 20, 23, 26
Dates: in August: 16, 17, 20, 21, 23, 27, 28
Dates in September: 17, 18, 20, 24, 25, 27, 28

There are 201 high focus districts in the country in the first phase which have nearly 50% of all unvaccinated or partially vaccinated children. These districts will be targeted by intensive efforts to improve the routine immunization coverage.

It is important to note that of the 201 districts, 82 districts are in just four states of UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and nearly 25% of the unvaccinated or partially vaccinated children of India are in these 82 districts of 4 states. Another 297 will be targeted for the second phase in the year.

It is reported that between 2009-2013 immunization coverage has increased from 61% to 65%, indicating only 1% increase in coverage every year. And so to accelerate the process of immunization by covering 5% and more children every year, the Mission Mode has been adopted to achieve the target of full coverage by 2020.  The Mission will be technically supported by WHO, UNICEF, Rotary International and other donor partners.

The Union government’s ‘Mission Indradhanush’, an immunisation programme (Chinnaarulaku Teeka Raksha) will be implemented through out the country. It will be launched in 201 districts along with two districts i.e Adilabad and Mahabubnagar in Tealngana State and 5 districts i.e East Godavari, Guntur, Krishna, Kurnool and Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh State from the last week of March in First Phase.

It would be taken up in above-said districts as they have been considered high-risk areas due to low record of immunisation and due to high concentration of migrant workers or labourers.

It aims to cover all those children who are either unvaccinated, or are partially vaccinated against seven vaccine preventable diseases which include diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B.

The immunisation in both States would be carried out this month. This year, H1N1 death cases have been reported in both States till the end of February. It was under control now, according to the health minister. Vaccine for Life – Immunize Every Child.

Intensification of activities will be carried out in 201 high priority districts in the country. All vaccines are available free of cost under the Universal Immunization Programme in India. Full immunization coverage tobe expected from 65% to at least 90% children of the country. The Universal Immunization Programme provides lifesaving vaccines to protect against 7 vaccine

  1.  Diphtheria(kantanaprpi), 
  2.  Pertussis/whooping cough(Korntha Daggu), 
  3.  Tetanus(Dhanurvatham),
  4.  Polio,
  5.  Tuberculosis/Cildhood TB,
  6.  Measles(Thattu) and
  7.  Hepatitis B, or Japanese Ensephalitis(JE) (Medadu vaapu)

Additionally, vaccines for JE and Hib are being provided in the select state.
