Swachh Patashala programme Monitoring and Evaluation in TS Schools: As part of the Swachh Patashala programme, every school is required to keep track of the following indicators as a measure of monitoring the progress and evaluating the impact of WASH.
a. Student absenteeism
b. Awareness among students on WASH practices
c. Compliance to personal hygiene practices and behavior
d. Children participation in WASH activities in school and outside
e. Influence of children on family/community
Some indicative methods for effective Monitoring and Evaluation (M and E) are:
- Recording absenteeism due to illness such as diarrhea, vomiting, worm infestation, respiratory infection etc
- Recording absenteeism among girl students during menstruation due to WASH related issues
- Tracking the level of awareness generated due to orientation activities during morning assembly, curriculum, camps, club activities etc.
- Documenting effectiveness of the programme through informal and formal methods such as essays, observations, discussions, debates etc
- Allotting roles and responsibilities to teachers and students for ensuring compliance of students’ personal hygiene practices
- Instituting methods for recognition of students demonstrating good WASH behaviors and behaviors related to cleanliness of surroundings
- Periodic audit of WASH and personal hygiene practices by HM
- Extent of participation by children in WASH related activities and initiatives in the school
- Evidence of children influencing WASH behavior at home Eg: Student influencing parents to construct a new toilet, usage of soap for handwashing at critical times, safe menstrual hygiene practices etc
- Evidence of Children / SMC influencing the community with regard to good WASH practices
