UDAAN Scheme for Girl Students, UDAAN is a program to give wings to girl students. Mentoring of Girl Students to Compete for Admission at Premier Engineering Colleges.
Udaan is a Central Government scheme implemented by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to mentor girl students and enable them to compete for admissions to premier Government higher education institutions such as Indian Institutes of Technology and National Institutes of Technology.
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched an initiative UDAAN to enable disadvantaged girl students and other students from SC/ST and minorities to transit from school to post-school professional education specially in Science and Math and provide free online resources to them for preparation of admission test premier engineering colleges in the country.
About UDAAN:
To address the teaching gap between school education and engineering entrance as also to enrich the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics at School level, the CBSE is launching, a project to provide free online resources to girl students of Class XI and Class XII for preparation of admission test for the premier engineering colleges in the country.
The special focus of project Udaan is to address the low enrolment ratio of girl students in these prestigious institutions and to enable girl students to receive special incentives and support so that they can join these institutions and go on to take leadership roles in the future.
The objective of this project is to enable girl students to soar to higher education from schools, and to eventually take various leadership roles in future.
The project aims at addressing the lower enrolment ratio of girl students in engineering colleges. The aim is also to enrich and enhance teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics at Senior Secondary level by providing free and online resources to everyone, with a focus on special incentives and support to 1000 selected disadvantaged girls per year.

Who can join?
The program is open to Indian citizens only. All girl students studying in classes XI and XII in any Board in India can apply based on following eligibility criteria. The selection of students will be based on merit.
- Girl students currently enrolled in Class XI and XII in PCM stream
- Minimum 70% marks in Class X overall and 80% marks in Science and Mathematics; for Boards which follow CGPA, a minimum CGPA of 8 and a GPA of 9 in Science and Mathematics
- For Class XII students, a minimum of 75% marks in PCM in Class XI in addition to the Class X requirements
- Selection will be based on merit cum means
- Preference will be given to girl students from economically disadvantaged background
Documents enclosed with the application
(i) One copy of passport size photograph with signature.
(ii) Self attested certificates of educational qualification.
(iii) Income declaration affidavit on non judicial stamp paper and income certificate from the employer

CBSE Selects 1000 girls
Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE), has received many applications for admissions in IIT this academic year. 1,000 applications by girls have been selected under the UDAAN Project. These girls have also been provided with online study material to prepare for the entrance exams of IIT.
The project UDAAN has been kick started by CBSE in order to increase the number of girl students getting admissions IIT. Under this project 1000 girls would be selected who would be provided with free of cost coaching for their engineering entrance exams.
The study material provided to these selected girl students is prepared with the help and inputs from the IIT Delhi, CBSE School and the students as well as teachers of BITS Pilani.
