REVISION OF AMOUNT OF FELLOWSHIP: The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India have revised the amount of fellowship for their respective fellowship schemes as under:
- National Fellowship for SCs (NFSC)
- National Fellowship for OBCs (NFOBC)
- Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF)
a. Rate of Fellowship Upto 31.12.2018
Rs. 25,000/- for first two years (JRF) and Rs. 28,000/- for remaining tenure (SRF)
b. Rate of Fellowship w.e.f. 01.01.2019
Rs. 31,000/- for first two years (JRF) and Rs. 35,000/- for or remaining tenure (SRF)
HRA: The HRA at the revised rate of 8%, 16% and 24% is allowed as per Govt. of India norms as applicable in the city/location where the Research Fellow is pursuing research.
UGC hike JRF and SRF fellowship: The University Grant Commission (UGC) has decided to hike the fellowship amount provided under the Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF) scheme of UGC. In a notification on June 3, the apex decision making body of higher education in the country has decided to hike the rate of JRF from the existing Rs 25000 per month to 31000 and in case of SRF, the same has been hiked from Rs 28000 to Rs 35000 per month.
Once a student qualifies for these fellowship through NET (National Eligibility Test), UGC provides JRF for a period of Two years and SRF for Three years. The revised rates of fellowship amount under the UGC Scheme for Junior Research Fellowship/Senior Research Fellowship in Science, Humanities and Social Sciences (UGC-NET). The revised amount of fellowships are applicable with effect from January 1, 2019.
In addition to this, the research scholars would also be getting an enhanced HRA. Accordingly, the HRA at the revised rate of 8%, 16% and 24% is allowed as per Government of India norms as applicable in the location where the research fellows are working. UGC notice also mentions that, the other terms and conditions will remain same as per the UGC XII Plan JRF guidelines.

To encourage invention, merit students UGC has taken a wonderful decision that to raise the fellowships and scholarships. This will be come in to existence from December 1st. The amount is raised up to 55% by University Grants commission(UGC).
UGC hiked Scholarships/Fellowships for Merit Students from December 1st, 2014: In a bid to encourage research scholars, the University Grants Commission has hiked the basic fellowship amount and scholarships from December 1st, 2014. Earlier in that day, the Rajya Sabha was informed about the revision in grants by HRD minister Smriti Irani. She said the hike in JRF and SRF in basic sciences will be on par with the similar fellowship amount disbursed by department of science and technology. In case of humanities and social sciences, the increase would be by about 55 percent.
The PG scholarships for graduate aptitude test in engineering (GATE) qualified students will be raised from Rs 8000 to Rs 12,400 per month. So, Eligible candidates of ‘GATE’, Institutions affiliated to MHRD & other govt institutions and studying certain subjects gets Rs 12,400 instead of Rs 8,000.
Eligibility: Eligible those who are selected through “GATE”
For junior research fellowship (JRF) the revised amount would be Rs 25,000 per month from the earlier Rs16,000 and in case of senior research fellowship (SRF), scholars would now get Rs28,000 per month from the earlier amount of Rs18,000.
So, Candidates eligible for junior research fellow ship in science, humanities social sciences gets Rs25,000 per month and scholars would now get Rs28,000 instead of Rs16,000 (JRF)& Rs 18,000 (SRF) consecutively .
Eligibility: Those who are qualified in UGC-NET, CSIR UGC-NET
Under Swamy Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship:
The Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarships for research in social sciences will be raised from Rs8000 to Rs12,400 per mouth in the first two years and from Rs10,000 to Rs15,500 per month in the third and fourth year.
So, the candidates who are going to opt social, research in science gets scholarship first two years Rs12,400 and then III and IV years Rs 15,500 per month instead of Rs 8,000 & Rs 10,000 consecutively.
Eligibility: candidate should be single child and should study Ph.d in any recognized university.
Radhakrishnan Post Doctoral Fellow Ship:
Under this those who are eligible to pursue humanities, social sciences, languages gets fellowship Rs 38,800 [I year] Rs 40,300 [II year] per month consecutively.
Eligibility: There should be prescribed doctorate degree. 55 percent marksin Under Graduate (UG), 60 percent marks in Post Graduate. candidate should be below 35 years.
Dr. D.S. KOTARI Post Doctoral Fellow Ship:
The eligible candidates gets fellow ship under scheme monthly Rs 43,400 (I year), Rs 45,000 (II year) and Rs 46,500 (III year)
Under Dr.D.S. KOTARI Higher Post Doctoral scheme eligible candidates gets monthly Rs 46,500 instead of Rs 30,000 for 3 years.
Eligible: Ph.d degree, presentation of Ph.d theisis
Age: 35 years.
Scholarship for SC/ST students:
Pursuing PG in SC/ST students those who are vocational courses gets scholarship Rs 7,800 (M.E/M.TECH) monthly and for other courses Rs 4,700 per month.
Eligibility: Prescribed subjects degree and from any recognized university they should join in professional course.
Age: 45 years
No.of scholarships: 1000.
Under post doctoral scholarship unemployed women gets Rs30,000 per month for two years and then Rs46,500 per month.
Under BSR faculty fellowship gets Rs46,500 for 3 years.
