The Central Government is offering various scholarships with the aim of overcoming the pain of physical disability and helping to live a strong life.
National Scholarships for Divyangjan Students 2023: Eligible Divyangjan students are required to apply for National Scholarships for the year 2021-22, according to the Divyanga Welfare Department. For more details please visit the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities official website, www.disabilityaffairs.gov.in. Applications must be submitted through online mode at https://scholarships.gov.in/.
Pre metric scholarships for ninth and tenth grade SwD students and (b) Post metric scholarships as well as top class scholarships for Inter to PG SwD students are offered by the Central Department of Social Justice and Empowerment.
These scholarships to support and encourage these students to pursue their education, different government departments run several. The key objective of these scholarships is to enable differently-abled students so that they can avail job and career opportunities likewise any other individuals.
The funds are provided by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Candidates who are pursuing various courses from Class IX to PhD, who are in foreign education endeavors and preparing for competitive examinations can apply for these by December 31.
There are 6 types of scholarships offered for the disabled, depending on their educational background. They are Pre-Metric, Post-Metric, Top Class Education, National Overseas, National Fellowship, Free Coaching.

Anyone with a 40 percent disability can apply for these scholarships. Those who have not received any other scholarships from the Central and State Governments are eligible for these. The family’s annual income is taken into account in the selection. Applications are being accepted for Pre-Metric, Post-Metric and Top Class Education Scholarships. The selection will be followed by a state-wise slot.
Andhra Pradesh has 910 pre-metric, 773 post-metric and 14 slots for top class education. There are 781 pre-metric, 664 post-metric and 12 class slots available in Top Class Education in Telangana. About 50 per cent of these scholarships are awarded to Divyanga students.
About 30% of National Overseas Scholarships are awarded to women. Students from other states will be given the opportunity if there are not enough candidates by state. The Divyangula (Divyangjan) Empowerment Department under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of India offers scholarships to Divyanga students.
As part of the Umbrella scheme, they are promoting their education through six types of scholarships such as pre-metric, post-metric, top class, national overseas, national fellowships and free training. Candidates pursuing various courses from Class IX to PhD are eligible for these.
Currently the National Scholarship Portal has issued notifications for Pre-Metric, Post-Metric and Top Class Scholarships. Requesting applications from those who are eligible. Anyone with a 40 percent disability can apply for these scholarships. Candidates, however, must have a Divyanga Certificate issued by the concerned Medical Authority.
Scholarship for Students with Disabilities 2023
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, extends Pre Matric (Class 9 & Class 10), Post Matric ( Class 11 to PG) Students with Disabilities (SwDs), with intent to support them in their pursuance to education at various levels. The detail of the aforesaid scheme is available on the website www.disabilityaffairs.gov.in of the Ministry.
Online registration on National Scholarship Portal to avail scholarships has commenced https://scholarships.gov.in/, inviting online Registration from eligible students with disabilities. Considering the essence and instrumental role of Scholarships as an effective facilitator and most sought financial relief in the empowerment of SwDs, efforts are solicited from all corners to mobilize an optimum number of eligible SwDs to register and avail the benefit of scholarship.
Pre Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities
Day Scholars are given Rs.500 and those staying in hostels are given Rs.800 per month. In addition, a book grant of Rs.1000 / – per annum and a disability allowance of Rs.2000 to Rs.4000 / – will be provided. This pre-metric scholarship selection is based on the student’s academic talent and age. The annual income of the parents should not exceed Rs.2.50 lakhs.
Under this scholarship, the students having more than 40 per cent disability are provided financial assistance to pursue their higher education. The students must be studying in class 9 and 10 at a government or recognized school. Also, the annual family income of the students must not be more than Rs.2.50 lakh from all sources.

Post Metric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities
The total students were divided into four groups.
- In Group-1, Degree in Medicine, Engineering / Technology, Planning / Architecture, Fashion, Technology, Management, Business / Finance, Administration etc., Day Scholars’ for PG students is Rs.750 / – per month and Hostellers are paid Rs.1600 per month.
- Day-scholars studying in Group-2 degree / diploma, pharmacy, LLB, other paramedical branches etc. are given Rs.700 / – per month and hostellers Rs.1100 / -.
- BA / BSc / BCom students in Group-3 will be offered Rs 650 per day for day scholars and Rs 950 per month for hostellers.
- Students pursuing ITI / Vocational / Polytechnic courses in Group-4 will be given Rs.550 / – per day for day scholars and Hostels are offered at a rate of Rs.900.
- Apart from these, book allowance of Rs.1500 / – per year and disability allowance of Rs.2000 to Rs.4000 / – are provided.
- Selection will be based on student academic talent and age. The annual income of the parents should not exceed Rs.2.50 lakhs.
This scholarship is meant to help students with disabilities and they can pursue their further education. The students having more than 40 per cent disability are eligible provided they are studying in class 11 to postgraduate level. They are required to have passed matriculation or higher secondary or any higher exam of recognized board of secondary education or university. The annual family income must be less than Rs.2.50 lakh from all sources.

National Fellowship for Students with Disabilities
Formerly known as ‘Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF)’, this fellowship is meant for students with disabilities who have been admitted to an MPhil/PhD degree in a university or academic institution. The key objective of this scholarship is to enable meritorious but disabled students to effectively take advantage of various opportunities at both the national and international levels.
The first two years will be a scholarship for the candidate selected by the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). If the research progress is satisfactory then another three years scholarship will be awarded in the form of Senior Research Fellowship (SRF).
JRF gets a stipend of Rs.25,000 per month and SRF a stipend of Rs 28,000 per month. Contingency is paid annually. If an assistant is needed they will be given Rs.2000 per month accordingly. Eligibility will be selected as per UGC guidelines.
- Intended for M.Phil / PhD students in Indian Universities.
- 2000 Fellowships are offered annually as part of this scheme.
- The income limit for parents is Rs. 6 lakhs per annum.
- As part of this, JRF will provide Rs 31,000 per month and SRF Rs 35,000.
- Contingency Grant, Escort Allowance / Reader Allowance, Home Rent are also paid.
- Selection will be made by the University Grants Commission.
- Candidates should apply online when the UGC notification is issued.
- There is no need to send any application to the Department of Disability Empowerment.

Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities
College Tuition Fee Reimbursement will be up to Rs.2 lakh. Daycare Rs.1500/- per month for maintenance expenses and Rs.3000/ – per month for hostellers. Special allowance of Rs.2000/- per month, books and stationery Rs.5000, a one-time grant of Rs.30,000 for the purchase of a computer through Reimbursement.
- This scheme aims to promote quality education among students with disability and allow them to pursue undergraduate/ postgraduate/ diploma courses.
- To be eligible for this scholarship, the candidates must have more than 40 per cent disability and a valid certificate for the same.
- A one-time grant of Rs.30,000 will be given in the form of Reimbursement for the purchase of equipment to help the disabled.
- Selection will be based on student academic talent and age.
- The annual income of the parents should not exceed Rs.6 lakhs. Apply online.
- Intended for graduate, postgraduate and diploma students.
- 300 scholarships are offered annually as part of this scheme.
- The income limit for parents is Rs. 6 lakhs per annum.
- Three thousand rupees for hostel students under monthly allowance,
- 1500 for Day Scholars,
- 2,000 – 5,000 per month under Divyanga Allowance,
- Book grant Rs. 5,000 plus tuition fee up to Rs. 2 lakh per annum.

AICTE Saksham Scholarship
This scholarship scheme encourages differently-abled students to pursue technical degree/ diploma courses at AICTE recognised institutions. The students having more than 40 per cent disability who are admitted in the first/ second (through lateral entry) year of technical degree/ diploma courses are eligible. They must have an annual family income of less than Rs.8 lakh from all sources.

Free training, Scholarship
Competitive examinations conducted by UPSC, SSC, IBPS, RRB, Public Service Commissions and entrance examinations for JEE, NEET CAT etc. are available at the institute free of cost. Through this the coaching institute pays the fee and the local student gets Rs. 2500, Rs.5000 will be given to a non-local student.
Another Rs.2000 are provided. If you can’t get any job that year, you can renew for another year. Selection will be based on academic merit. Family income should not exceed Rs.6 lakhs per annum. Intended for candidates taking coaching for entrance exams like., JEE, NEET, CAT, CLAT and Group-A, B posts and related to Union Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission, RRB, IBPS, National Banks,public sector insurance companies
As part of this scheme a coaching fee is paid to the listed institute. Non-local candidates will be paid Rs.7,000 per month for stipend and special allowance and Rs.4,500 per month for local candidates.
National Overseas Scholarship
- Masters Degree / PhD in Engineering, Management, Pure Sciences and Applied Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Medicine, Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Humanities, Social Sciences, Law and Fine Arts.
- Preference will be given to those who have passed Bachelor’s / Master’s degree with 55% marks and have work experience. Must be under 35 years of age.
- UK Students studying at universities in other countries are entitled to $ 15,400 per year and $ 1500 per year in the form of a contingency allowance.
- UK Those studying in universities get 9900 GB per year and 1100 GB per year in the form of contingency allowance. In addition, visa fees, flight charts, medical insurance, etc. are paid in the required amount.
- Scholarships are available for PhD students for four years and for Masters degree holders for three years. Fill in the application form from the website and attach the relevant certificates. The annual income of the family should not exceed six lakhs per annum.
- Selected on the basis of merit and shortlist.
- Master’s degree is intended for students going to foreign universities for a doctorate degree.
- As part of this scheme, 20 scholarships are offered annually.
- The income limit for parents is Rs. 6 lakhs per annum.
- Maintenance Allowance సంవత్సర 9,900 per year (Great Britain),
- Other countries, however, $ 15,400.

Steps to complete the SwD Scholarship Registration 2023
Students with Disabilities are aware of the scholarships that are available on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP portal) and students fulfil the eligibility conditions specified, students can apply for them online. The given steps to be followed for making a successful application on the portal.

Students with Disabilities need to visit the official website of the NSP portal, https://scholarships.gov.in in your device browser.
- Click on New User? Register Link
Once you reach the official website, you click on the New User Registration link on the home page. Students with Disabilities should read and understood the guidelines for registration. After tick on the radio buttons, you can click on the Click on the Continue button.
- Fill the Fresh Registration Form
After clicking on that link, a Fresh Registration form would be opened. Now, Select the Pre Matric for class 1 to 10 OR Select the Post Matric / MC/ Top Class for Class 11, 12, UG, PG etc., from the Scholarship Category and Select Scholarship Scheme if you want to apply for Scholarships OR Select Incentive Scheme if you want to apply for any incentive scheme and fill the form with required information and click on the register button.
- Click on Login to Apply Link
After completion of new registration process, student will get a unique application ID and password through SMS on the provided (registered) mobile number. Now, you can click on the Login to Apply link on the home page. Then, Login for Fresh Application web page will appear in your device.
- Enter Login details
In the login web page, student shall login to NSP using application ID and password which were received at the time of registration process and click on the login button. Here, the student must change the password upon first login. This password has to be kept safely and confidentially. The Students with Disabilities can change the mobile number only before the first login, i.e. before changing the received password.
- Click on the Application Form link
After clicking on the login button, an applicant dashboard will open. Now, click on the ‘Application Form’ to proceed with the scholarship application.
- Fill the Application Form
After clicking on the application form link, application form web page will appear. The Application Form is divided into three Parts, i.e., Registration Details, Academic Details, Basic Details. Students with Disabilities should fill in all required details in the application form and Upload all supporting documents with the application form. Finally, click on the ‘Final Submit’ button.
