Bathukamma is a colourful and vibrant festival of Telangana. Bathukamma festival is celebrated by women, with flowers that grow exclusively in each region.
This festival is a symbol of Telangana’s cultural identity. Bathukamma comes during the latter half of monsoon, before the onset of winter.Every year this festival falls in September and October also known as Mahalaya Amavasya. Bathukamma is celebrated for nine days during Durga Navratri. It starts on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya and the 9-day festivities will culminate on “Saddula Bathukamma” or “Pedda Bathukamma”
Bathukamma is an embodiment of the spirit of Telangana. The festival has become an important part of the cultural renaissance movement of Telangana and has now been accorded the State Festival status in the newly formed state. Bathukamma is literally a celebration of life. It is a unique tribute to nature, which starts with colorful flowers and culminates in a waterbody.

Telangana State Government has launched a global online campaign to promote Bathukamma, which has been accorded state festival status recently. A special website with information about Bathukamma, photos and videos of Bathukamma celebrations has been launched. Details of Worldwide Bathukamma celebrations have been uploaded into the website. A Facebook page and a YouTube Channel have also been launched.
A global digital campaign has been launched on Google, Facebook and YouTube. The campaigns have been getting very good response from Telanganites across the globe. Already 6 lakh people have viewed the Bathukamma Digital Campaign on various platforms. Telanganites living in various countries are sharing the photos and videos of their Bathukamma celebrations on the Facebook page set up by the state government.
Arrangements have also been made to webcast the 2nd October Tank Bund Bathukamma celebrations on YouTube live across the globe.
