When do Half Day Schools in Telangana State?
The Telangana state government has recently made a significant decision in the interest of the welfare of school students by announcing the implementation of Half Day Schools.
With the state currently experiencing lower temperatures, the sun’s intensity during the daytime has increased, resulting in high temperatures being recorded in many areas. As a consequence, students attending school are facing significant difficulties due to the heat.
Telangana Director of School Education has also given clarity regarding Half Day Schools. In view of rising temperatures, schools will run half-time from the second week of March. According to the Education Department officials, Half Day Schools will start in Telangana from 15th March.
TS Half Day School Timings 2023
Classes will be held from 8.00 AM to 12.30 PM during Half Day Schools. These precautions must be followed without fail during the half day school session.
Department of Education has suggested that better fresh water should be provided to children in private schools as well as government schools during this Half Day School.
The Director of School Education, Telangana State Hyderabad will give proceedings to all RJDs of School Education and all DEOs in the state and certain instructions would be issued to above said officials on “Telangana Half Day Schools during Summer from March 15“.
The time table will be released for Half day schools during summer and implementation of option holidays for high schools for all managements. Guidelines have been released for all managements of Primary/ Upper Primary/ High Schools in all districts as per the proceedings, implementation of half-day schools during summer and optional holidays for high schools.
The primary, upper primary and high schools under all managements i.e., government, aided and private will function from 8.00 AM to 12.30 PM PM, Director of School Education said in an order and the mid-day meals would be provided at 12.30 am from March 15 to April 24.
The Director has instructed all heads of the departments, regional joint directors of school education and district educational officers to communicate the decision to schools under all managements and monitor the implementation.

Half Day Schools during summer may be from March 15 onwards till last working day 24-04-2023 of the academic year 2022-2023. The schools i.e., Primary, Upper Primary and High Schools of all managements i.e., both Govt., Govt. Aided and Private management will function from 8.00 AM to 12.30 PM.

Half day school Proceedings 2023
The Telangana government has ordered all schools in the state to function for reduced hours till the last day of the ongoing academic year. Half-day schools will commence from March 15 to April 24, the order reads.
The order applies to all schools i.e., primary, upper primary, and high schools under government, government-aided, and private managements. The officials were asked to communicate the order to schools and monitor its implementation.

Reportedly, special classes for 10th standard students would however continue, in view of their SSC preparation. The students are going to take their exams in the month of April and schools that are functioning as SSC centers will continue to function from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

DSE Telangana Half Day Schools Proceeding Details
The schools will reopen from 13-06-2022 after summer vacation and celebrate the State Formation Day on 02-06-2022 and that schools will be run on ‘Half Day’ basis from March 15 to April 23. So, Telangana Schools run on Half Day basis: 15-03-2022 to 23-04-2022.
The Badi Bata Programme will be conducted in June month in the morning hours i.e., from 07.00 AM to 11.00 AM. Badi Bata Programme is conducted in Government/Local Body schools only and is meant for the Teachers only who go on a rotation basis, for improving the enrolment of these schools. This does not pertain to the students of the schools. Therefore, they are requested to take immediate necessary action in the matter.
1. Due to the Hot Summer, the classes will be run as per the Academic Calendar and schools will be run on Half Day basis.
3. The State Formation Day will be celebrated on 2nd June.
4. Badi Bata programme will be also be conducted in the morning hours i.e., from 7.00 AM to 11.00 AM

Utilization of Optional Holidays for High Schools: Optional Holidays will be applicable for schools rather than individual teachers. The earlier practice of the utilization of Optional holidays to the institutions shall be continued.

Implementation of the academic year, the Head Masters shall be instructed to start the syllabus from June 12nd onwards and give some assignments, projects to the students during summer vacation.
Accordingly, the HMs must plan for drafting teachers for invigilation i.e., non-language teachers for language subjects and language teachers for non-language subjects. In addition to starting of the syllabus, the HMs must take up remedial teaching for the children who are unable to read and write and perform basic arithmetic operations.
Text Books distribution and maintaining Book Bank – All the District Educational Officers are instructed to take necessary action for the distribution of textbooks to the children on the 12th June.
Therefore the HMs have to personally attend the Mandal point and collect required textbooks before June 12th. The State level observers are being deployed for monitoring of SSC exams shall also monitor the transportation of textbooks to the schools and distribution to the children properly.
All the HMs are requested to deposit the textbooks from outgoing students who are promoted to the next class and maintain the book bank as was done last year. In case if any textbook not reached to the school, books may be arranged from the book bank for time being till new textbooks reach the schools.
Implementation of ABC Programme/ 3 R’s Programme (Improving the basic competencies in reading, writing and arithmetic for all students in primary, Upper Primary and High Schools): In addition to the starting of the syllabus from 1st June onwards, the HMs must also plan for the conduct of remedial teaching for the children who are unable to read, write and perform arithmetic.
As per the survey from ASER and as well as School Education about 40 to 50% of children are unable to read and write in mother tongue and about 60 to 70% in English. Similarly, children are very poor in basic arithmetic operations.
Therefore all the Head Masters of Primary Schools, Upper Primary Schools and High Schools shall take up special remedial classes for the children separately with conducting some Baseline test and also Endline test for assessing the improvement. The existing material in schools i.e, SLIM cards, library books and Class I and II Textbooks may be used for the strategies to improve the basic competencies.
For this, the Head Master need to conduct a meeting with staff and define the roles and responsibilities of each staff member and timings for remedial classes, strategies, targets and develop a plan of action for improvement with specific targets.
In the end, they should conduct one endline test and furnish the report on progress to the concerned School Complex Head Master and Mandal Educational Officers. All the School complex Head Masters are responsible in their complex area for the implementation and improving the basic competencies.
Badi Bata – The Badi Bata programme is scheduled as per the dates in all the schools in the State. A detailed day-wise programme shall be communicated shortly. All the HMs have to prepare school profile and update the Village Education Registers (VERs) immediately for the conduct of Badi Bata i.e., distribution of handouts, posters, list of out of school children, child labour etc.
Therefore all the RJDSEs and DEOs are directed to take appropriate action and see that the schools run seriously and conduct academic proceedings, as indicated above in both Government and private schools as per the schedule.
So, all government and private schools in Telangana State would work half day from March 16th. The government declared half-day schools on March 16 from in view of summer setting and schools will function from 8 AM to 12.30 PM.
