This is done at three levels. Annual Plan: It’s a planning for a year’s work. It includes distribution of lessons in a given manner throughout the year. It’s a systematic procedure for finding out the extent which the pupils have realized the objectives and specifications. Generally, the annual plan is prepared before the beginning of the new academic year.
The unit plan is prepared based on the annual plan. It gives a detailed description about the units to be covered in each month and the related activities to be undertaken. It is also useful to accomplish the activities related to school.
Unit Plan: It is a plan for a unit which consists various sub-topics. It covers an entire unit of work, the objectives of curriculum and how to exercise and assess. A unit plan supports to develop several standards, skills and desired outcomes in the teaching-learning process.
Period Plan: A period plan is a teacher’s daily schedule of what students need to learn, how to be taught and how to be assessed. Period plans specify the learning objectives, content, methods, strategies and materials. A period plan guides the teacher as to how a specific topic to be transacted in the stipulated time effectively fulfilling the desired objectives and expected outcomes.

Pre-Reading: Pre-reading isa picture-based interactive session at the beginning of the unit to initiate the learners into the theme and ensure their active engagement towards the lesson.
Reading: A good selection from a wide range of literary genres locally, nationally and globally familiar texts are chosen that are also useful in cross- curricular teaching.
Glossary: New words in the text are given with their meanings in simple language using the easiest possible words. Glossary and literary devices are given at the end pages of the text.
Comprehension: Reading comprehension includes plenty of activities like ‘Wh’ questions, fill in the blanks, choose the correct answer, MCQs, arranging in sequential order, True or false statements etc. They also include factual, inferential, extrapolative as well as value-based questions.
Vocabulary: Various vocabulary activities like meanings, synonyms, opposites, antonyms, missing letters, word buildings, suffix-prefixes, compound words, and theme based concept maps, dictionary skills are taught.Vocabulary is initially presented by revisiting the text and its explanation and practice follows.
Grammar: Graded manner, class specific approach is taught with detailed explanations and rules. Languages give grammar awareness among the students. Examples given are in students’ arbitral and exponential specifications. Varied exercises follow them to ensure the learner has learnt the concept well.
Writing: Writing activities are achieved with conventions of writing and with different discourses. Discourses like letter writing, diary entries, posters, notices, stories, biographies, travelogues, recipes, picture based descriptions, verbal descriptions and paragraph writings etc.
Listening and Responding: This section aims at developing students’ listening and speaking skills through a wide variety of activities and communicative activities.
Projects: Cross-curricular projects are linked to themes taught. Most of the projects are out-door projects where children work by sharing in groups and children will be active participants rather than recipients of information. Most popular are learning by doing experimentation like reading, discussions, asking question, listening, expressing.
Poem: Poems from various local / Indian / international poets are taken to sing rhythmically and meaningfully to comprehend and appreciate the poetic lines, to know the age-specific culture, linguistic styles and to enjoy the poems. Every alternative unit has a poem. Thus there are 4 poems in each textbook.
Language Games: Language lab is an audio visual installation used as an aid in language teaching. Language labs are richer and self authorized. Not just audio but video, flash based games, internet, quick delivery of media between teacher and student is much quicker and therefore much more engaging for both teacher and student. The accent, pronunciation, communicative skills are easier than the TLP in classroom.
There are different features of language labs namely. 1. Story / Lesson 2. Vocabulary Elements / Grammar Elements 3. Language Games / Language Functions. Fun time: A unit generally ends with a language game / project followed by proverbs / riddles / jokes / tongue twisters etc.
Readiness Activity: Readiness activity is a warm up activity before the transaction begins. Children get motivated by this warm up activity. They mould towards the teacher’s instructions. Every child involves in this activity. Teacher starts the session with warm greetings and starts with a simple activity. It might be a game / a story / a rhyme or with a discussion.
Introduction: Introduction is the basic step of period transaction. It is to involve the children towards the period’s concept. Teacher interacts with the children by asking some questions and students respond to them. Teacher identifies the students’ abilities and disabilities in understanding the concepts. The teacher may recall or reteach the concept.
Presentation: Presentation is the major component in the Teacher Learning Process. Presentation by the teacher. Presentation by the pupils. Different steps of reading come across in presentation.1) Pre – Reading 2) While Reading 3) Post – Reading.
Pre Reading: Pre – Reading is a picture based interactive session at the beginning of the unit to initiate the learners in to the theme and ensure their active engagement towards the lesson.
While Reading: Reading the lesson is the main component in classroom transaction. Each lesson is suggested to transact in four segments.
Reading involves the following steps. Model Reading: Model reading is the initial reading by the teacher. Teacher reads the text aloud twice with proper stress, pause and intonation. Children listen to the teacher by looking into the text.
Echo Reading: Echo reading is a loud reading by both the teacher and the pupils. After, model reading, Echo reading follows. Teacher reads aloud with proper stress pause and intonation and asks the children to repeat after him / her. Children repeat after the teacher. Understanding of the text starts from these readings along with proper pause, stress and intonation. Children learn how to read the lesson.
Supportive Reading: Teacher supports the children in understanding and analyzing the text. Teacher scaffolds in understanding the key words / phrases / sentences / concept. It tends to facilitate more efficient learning. This process promotes a deeper level of learning.
Sharing / Group Time: After supportive reading this reading follows. Teacher asks the children to read the text in pairs / groups. Children read the text by sharing their ideas and opinions. Children feel free in learning from their peers.
Individual Reading: Teacher asks the pupils to read the text individually. Comprehension strategies and skills are learnt during the class. It also allows students to read, or re-read in order to build fluency and practice.
Practice Time: Practice time is focused on practicing the task based on the content taught in class. Pupils practice individually. Sometimes it might be in pairs or in groups. Teacher assigns activities to practice from the textbook as well as workbook.
Assessment Time: The teacher verifies and evaluates the work done by the children and suggests them for improvements. Every period ends with this assessment. Teacher identifies with what went well in the class, what should be modified in the class and what remedial should be done for better learning.
Teacher’s Reflections: Teachers have to assess the learning outcomes in their class and modify for their presentation in their next classes.
