Annual Plan is a planning for the year. It includes the distribution of lessons in a given manner throughout the year. Semester plan is a schedule of everything that we need to get done over the 12 weeks. It shows how many periods we teach per a lesson and special activities.

3rd Class Period Plans

Unit plans consist of concepts and learning outcomes that are taught over a period of time. A lesson plan explains the objectives of a specific lesson and how teaching must be planned in an approach to accomplish those objectives. A lesson plan consists of 6 steps.

6 Steps in Period Plan

They are, 1. Introduction: a) Greetings b) Warm up activity c) Mind map d) Announcement of the topic.
2. Presentation: a) Reading b) Keywords c) Conceptual understanding.
3. Practicing skills.
4. Sum Up.
5. Assessment.
6. Teacher’s reflections.

Step 1 Introduction: The introduction provides interest and motivation to the students. It focusses students attention on the lesson. It also convinces students that they will benefit from the lesson. Introduction provides a first impression, establish credibility with students. It is also the connectivity for the previous lesson and helps for the readiness of the students.

Teacher greets the students warmly and do some warm up activities. a) Interactive questions b) Mind maps c) Picture interaction / real objects, d) Game Announcement of the topic. The title of the lesson announced in the class is announcement of the topic. When a topic is announced, it gives a clear idea to the student about the lesson he/ she is going to learn. After the warmup, teacher announces the topic clearly and writes it on the Board.

Step 2 Presentation: The presentation phase of the lesson is when the teacher introduces new information. Presentations are fantastic ways to contribute to learning experience. Presentation helps to teach with confidence and motivate the students to listen.

(a) Reading – a) Teacher reading : Teacher records the lesson aloud with proper audibility to make the students follow the text.
b) Loud reading by students. A few students read the lesson aloud and other students follow it.
c) Individual reading by students: Students read the lesson individually and underline the key words. (b) The key words will be written on the Board by the teacher for teacher explanation.

(c) Conceptual Understanding: Conceptual understanding is knowing more than facts and methods and to develop students evaluation skills in attitude, technical skills and scientific knowledge. In conceptual understanding children can group ideas in a transferrable way, can help students take what they learn in class and apply it in real life. Teacher explains the content briefly based on the concept.

Description based: 1) Games 2) Skits 3) Picture presentation 4) Charts 5) Models 6) Interactive question 7) Flash cards Activity based: 1) Experiments 2) Field trips 3) Project works.

Step 3 Practicing skills: Practicing skill is the act of rehearsing or engaging in an activity for the purpose of improving or mastering it. Practice is the only way for the students to deeper their understanding, and critical thinking and to develop the concept in their own way. The students will do the activities given in the text. a) Blanks b) Matching c) Multiple choice d) Oral questions e) Tabular forms f) Writing on their own g) Drawing / model making

Step 4 Sum Up: Sum up is summarizing the lesson to enable the students recap what they have learnt in that particular period. The summarizing of the lesson helps the slow learners a lot. It enables slow learners to understand the content again and others to know how much they have grasped. Teacher explains the content briefly to sum up the lesson.

Steps 5 Assessment: Assessment is a way of supportive learning. It helps teachers for tracking progress, planning next steps, reporting and involving parents. Assessment is carried out to see what children know, understand and are able to do.

Formative Assessment: The assessments to analyze the learning process of the students in order to modify teaching and learning activities. Formative assessment is conducted for 1 or 2 units. Summative assessment: Summative assessment is to evaluate student at the end of a portion of the syllabus against some standards. The assessments are conducted to analyze the learning process of the students in order to modify teaching learning activities. Teacher conducts an assessment after every unit.

Step 6 Teacher’s reflections: Teacher has to record her reflections after completion of the period. These reflections helpful for the teacher to improve her teaching proficiency and to measure achievement levels of students, implementation of remedial teaching practice. How many students understood today’s class?. Which activity was done well? Why? For whom my help was needed the most?
