A new Android GIS Application is created for GIS(geographical information system) mapping of schools/School Location Mapping in the Telangana State and latest photographs and information of schools are to be uploaded on it.
Web Based School GIS application is an initiative of the DSE and TS SSA for seamless visualization of school locations across the state. Geographic location of schools collected by the various Schools in the state has been collated and mapped on GIS Platform established by National Informatics Centre. Further, these school locations have been interlinked with the school report cards based on U-DISE database, developed and hosted by National University of Educational Planning and Administration.
In this application, base map services like street maps, and high resolution satellite images are available for better understanding of the topography/ terrain of the location. This web service application comprises of administrative boundaries up to village level and location information up to habitation level along with basic GIS functionalities and measurement tools which will help to improve the quality of planning and better utilization of resources available under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).
Web GIS application to enable planning for the access, enrolment, retention, quality and monitoring aspects, integration of school infrastructure, facilities, budget & expenditure, child & teacher information, attendance, mid-day-meal program, results, school complexes along with required visuals, integrating.
A proximity analysis helps to meet the norms of the government in establishing the new schools and upgrading the existing schools wherever required. Distance among schools and habitations can be found to help rationalization of schools and Infrastructure status can be found using visuals. GIS based customized modules facilitate quick decisions across the table.
GIS Mobile Application: The initiative involves design, development and implementation of an ‘School GIS Mobile App. It is an Android based App designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of geographical data and geo-tagged photographs of various facilities and other infrastructure in schools. The App can be installed on any Android based smart phone that is equipped with GPS facilities. It can also be installed on phablets, tablets with android and GPS facilities. The App is well integrated with the school Education Portal and is able to interact with education portal and its domain specific live data like schools, enrollments, facilities and infrastructure etc.
GIS Mobile Application for Schools Mapping: It also involves web-interface for viewing the geo-tagged schools, photographs of the schools and executing various geo-spatial queries for planning and management. The App can be used by the Sub-engineers, CRPs, HMs, teachers for capturing and uploading the geo-tagged information.
They will continue to use their education Portal user name and passwords for uploading the information
The portal also records the unique Id of individual, IMEI number of the device, mobile no of the SIM of the device that has been used for uploading the GIS information and geo-tagged photos.

Follow the below steps while working with this app. schoolgis.nic.in/index.html
1. Before logging into application, make sure to enable Internet connection (Mobile data) and GPS(Location) activation (Otherwise the application does not work).
2. After enabling the Mobile data & GPS location, wait for few minutes to start the app. Once Mobile data & GPS are enabled then only you have to start the app.
3.User can logon to the app. by using their childinfo application school level credentials.
4.Take the School Photographs in horizontal mode.
5.If the above procedure is not followed, we may not get accurate Geo Coordinates .
At a time, only two photographs can be captured. User can repeat the process to capture more than 2 photographs per school. NIC, Hyderabad, Telangana
