The National Board of Examinations (NBE) in New Delhi is inviting applications for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) conducted for Medical Graduate Candidates.

FMGE. Medical graduates who have studied medical education abroad must pass this examination to practice medicine in India. The NBE conducts this test twice a year (June and December).

The online application process for the FMGE exam: The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) has started on its web portal and will continue until the deadline.

Students who want to appear for the exams can now submit their online application forms. The screening test is scheduled to be held on the notified date.

Foreign Medical Graduate Examination Details

The official website of NBE, natboard.edu.in, announced the start of the FMGE online application process.

Students who want to know more details about the exam can visit the official website. The FMGE exam will be conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), and all the important information regarding the exam is available on their official website.

Eligibility Criteria

As per the official notice released by NBE, Indian Citizens or overseas citizens of India possessing a primary medical qualification awarded by any medical institution outside India who are desirous of getting provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or State Medical Councils can register for the FMGE online.

The FMGE exam is conducted by the NBE every year and is held in two sessions: June and December.

Candidates can visit NBE’s official website, nbe.edu.in, to learn more about the eligibility criteria, fee structure, course curriculum, scheme of examination, and other details.

FMGE Application fee

The examination cost for FMGE has been fixed at Rs 6000, with an 18% GST of Rs 1080 added on top. As a result, the total fee due is Rs 7080.

The stipulated exam fee must be paid using the designated payment gateway with an Indian bank’s credit card or debit card, or with any other means of payment that may be made available and listed on the website.

Candidates must remember to review the Eligibility Criteria before applying. It must also be noted that no application will be accepted if the registration fees are not paid.

How to apply for FMGE 2025?

FMGE registrations will begin as per the schedule. It must be noted that all applications will be accepted online only. Candidates are advised to go through the FMGE Information Bulletin before applying online. They can even refer to the official notice, important dates, and how to apply online here.

  • Candidates must visit the official website of the National Board of Examinations for the FMGE Exam, nbe.edu.in.
  • Once you reach the official website, click on the link that reads, ‘FMGE.’ On the Homepage.
  • After clicking on that link, you will be redirected to a new page with registration and login options.
  • Depending on your requirements, click on new registration or candidate login on this web page.
  • Log in with your credentials; the FMGE application form will load on the webpage. If you haven’t registered on the website as yet, you can do a new registration.
  • Start filling out the application form by providing all the details as requested and uploading the important documents.
  • Pay the registration fees online and then click on submit. Your FMGE application form will be submitted.
  • Submit your application and print a copy of the application form for future use.

Medical graduates who wish to practice in India must pass the FMGE which acts as a screening test.

NBEMS offers the FMGE twice a year for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) who want to get a registration certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC) or their local State Medical Council (SMC).

FMGE Marking Scheme

The marks are divided into two categories: pre- and Para-Clinical Subjects (100 marks) and Clinical Subjects (200 marks).

Pre and Para Clinical Subjects like Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry carry 17 marks each, while Pathology, Microbiology and Pharmacology hold a weightage of 13 marks each. Lastly, Forensic Science is of 10 marks.

However, the Clinical Subjects are divided into several parts i.e.

  1. Medicine and Allied Subjects- which include Medicine (33 marks), Psychiatry (5 marks), Dermatology and STD (5 marks) and Radiotherapy (5 marks).
  2. General Surgery and Allied Subjects: – which include General Surgery (32 marks), Anesthesiology (5 marks), Orthopedics (5 marks) and Radiodiagnosis (5 marks).
  3. Pediatrics, Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology carried 15 marks each.
  4. Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Community Medicine hold 30 marks each.

FMGE Exam Pattern

The FMGE exam is conducted via computer in English and consists of 300 multiple-choice questions, divided into two parts (150 each).

The exam takes 300 minutes (5 hours) to complete, with a scheduled break between each part.

To clear the exam, the candidates must score at least 150 marks out of 300. No marks will be deducted for any wrong attempts.
