The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is going to roll out ‘Scheme for Residential Education for SC Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas’, SHRESHTA from this academic year 2022-23. SHRESHTA scheme provides scholarships covering almost all educational expenses of the meritorious students of classes 9 and 11 belonging to Scheduled Caste communities.
Students are selected for SHRESHTA via an entrance examination- NETS. National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA, NETS a national level test conducted by the National Testing Agency, NTA in Computer Based Test mode. Candidates who qualify the SHRESHTA entrance exam are shortlisted for admission to CBSE affiliated schools.
Under this scheme, the government will disburse the scholarships directly to the schools giving admission to the students shortlisted for the scheme. This scholarship covers school fee (including Tuition Fee etc.) and Hostel Fee (including Mess Charges etc.). SHRESHTA is applicable only residential schools (independent) affiliated with the CBSE up to Class 12 Schools must be in operation for 5 years or more with 75 % pass percentage or more in Class 10 and 12 in the last 3 years. CBSE issued an official notification on the official website and asked the interested Residentials schools to submit their online consent on the link provided on the official website by March 25, 2022. Further, the board also said that it will conduct a clarification session in Video conference mode and would explain the working of this scheme to all the principals who submit their consent within the deadline.

What is SHRESHTA (NETS) 2022?
The government has approved a new scheme named SHRESHTA (Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas) for the purpose of providing seats for the meritorious SC boys and girls in the best private residential schools in the country. What is the eligibility criteria for appearing in SHRESHTA (NETS)?
Only those candidates who have passed/ appearing in Class VIII for taking admission in Class IX and those appearing/passed in class X for taking admission in Class XI whose parental income is up to ₹ 2.50 lakh.
