In the reference cited, the Director of School Education & Ex-Officio Project Director, SSA, TS, Hyderabad has informed that it has been proposed to conduct the program of ‘Patanothsovam’ (Reading Festival) in all primary and upper primary schools and upper primary sections of high schools in the district from 14.11.2016 to 20.11.2016 with an emphasis on the development of school and class libraries and communicated the day-wise activities schedule (copy enclosed).
While enclosing a copy of instructions of the Director of School Education, TS, Hyderabad, and all the Mandal Educational Officers in the district are requested to adhere the instructions and take necessary action and submit compliance report to this office.

All the District Educational Officers and Ex-officio Project Officers of SSA in the state are informed that every year public libraries observe Library Week from 14th -20th November. Coinciding with the Library week celebrations, it is proposed to conduct the program ‘Patanothsavam’ (Reading Festival) in all the primary, upper primary schools and upper primary sections of high schools in the state for the said week with an emphasis on the development of school and class libraries.
In this connection a write up has been developed highlighting the importance of strengthening, maintaining the libraries in schools, conduct of patanothsavalu in schools. A day wise activities schedule for the said week is submitted for your kind perusal. Day wise activities schedule is as follows:

1 | 14-11-2016 | On the occasion of Nehru’s birthday i.e. children’s day, celebrations begin with formal meeting on the importance of book reading habit and maintaining library. |
2 | 16-11-2016 | Task will be given to children to rearrange, repair old library books by changing their covers and dusting the books racks. |
3 | 16-11-2016 | Children can be asked to collect some paper cuttings and paste them on sheets on this day and read the news items. |
5 | 18-11-2016 | New books may be given to students to read. Students may prepare invitation cards for the concluding day programme. Invitation cards may be sent to village heads or prominent people. |
6 | 19-11-2016 | A concluding programme may be organised with SMC members and village heads in which students will perform cultural activities and BM will speak on developing reading habits among children |
The above said celebrations may be organised in collaboration with the local public libraries and other organisations like Room to Read, MV foundation etc. Therefore, the DEOs and Ex-officio POs of SSA are requested to take necessary action for issue of instructions to HMs, School complex HMs, MEOs for effective implementation of the library week celebrations.
It is also informed that care should be taken that this event should be organized without disturbing the academic studies, instead it may be organized in the period allotted for co-curricular activities as suggested in the write-up. Further, HMs may be instructed to do documentation of the program and its impact on children. This has got the approval of the Director of School Education and Ex-officio Project Director, SSA.
