Sainik School Entrance Exam

We can also call the AISSEE exam as the Little Soldiers Sainik School Entrance. Let’s see why to call it?. Because, the Central Government has set up Sainik schools (military schools) with the aim of preparing the Military officers required for the three forces in the national defense from the school level.

What we do know is that these are managed by the Sainik Schools Society (SSS). Every year the SS Society releases the entrance test notification for the sixth and ninth classes in Sainik schools across the country. These details are for our readers.

Admissions Classes Admissions are limited to the sixth and ninth grades. If you look at the specialties of the school, the Sainik School offers free education and accommodation to all, regardless of social and economic status. That is to say, the education system is similar to Gurukul Vidyalaya System like Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kendritya Vidyalaya.

More importantly, if seen in this school, the teaching here will be in a way that fully cultivates discipline, personality development as well as patriotism. The skills required to enter the three forces are taught right from the school stage.

Selection for these schools are done through the All India Sainik School Entrance Test (AISEE) conducted nationally by NTA. For this, Govt Of India has entrusted the National Testing Agency (NTA) with the responsibility of conducting examinations for admissions in Sainik Schools. The NTA prepares the merit list based on the marks obtained in the written test.

27% reservation for other backward castes-non creamy layer (OBC-NCL)

Defence Secretary has announced introduction of Other Backward Class (OBC) reservation in Sainik Schools from the year 2023-24. According to Defence Secretary, 27 per cent seats in Sainik schools will be reserved for other backward classes (OBCs) from the academic session 2023-24.

According to the circular, the Sainik Schools Society, which works under the Ministry of Defence, manages 33 such residential schools in the country. The circular said within each list, 15 per cent seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes, 7.5 per cent seats are for Scheduled Tribes and 27 per cent seats are for Other Backward Classes-Non-Creamy Layer OBC-NCL.

In each Sainik School, 67% of seats are reserved for children of that state or UT, with the rest 33% for candidates from other places. If any of the reserved categories of SC, ST or OBC-NCL are not available within the home state\UT, the seats shall be distributed among the defence and general categories to ensure the 67% criteria is met, said the MoD order.

Admissions to the residential Sainik Schools, which begin from Class VI and come under the defence ministry, are through a competitive exam and a medical fitness test. As per one estimate, the schools eventually contribute around 25% of the cadets selected for the tri-Service National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla.

Sainik Schools made a modest beginning in 1961, with the primary aim being to prepare boys academically, physically and mentally for entry into NDA as well as reduce regional and class imbalances in the office cadre to ensure “all-India representation” after the “martial race” policy of British India.

They have come a long way since then, with hundreds of senior officers currently serving in the armed forces being alumni of Sainik Schools, including many two and three-star generals.
