AP Govt CCE for assessing academic levels of the students from primary education level.Students will thoroughly assesses with CCE
After years of ambivalence, at last, the state government Andhra Pradesh has decided to go for Continuous and comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) for assessing academic levels of the students from primary education level. CCE has been followed by the CBSE for several years and the methodology has been found to be very effective, going by performance indicators of the students each year.
The State Council Research and Training (SCERT), which is the State Academic Authority, has been authorized to develop guidelines and the Rajiv Vidya Mission (RVM) has been asked to issue these guidelines. The RVM, Director of School Education and the SCERT have been made asked to monitor the implementation of the CCE.
The CCE has been prescribed by the Right to Education Act itself. The State Project Director of Rajiv Vidya Mission, V. Usharani has sent a letter to the government long back for implementation of the norm but since the educational structures is not made to suit for it, government has kept on hold. A committee formed earlier has also asked for implementation, but due to lack of proper policy making mechanism, it had not taken place.
Poonam Malakondaiah Principal Secretary of Primary Education, in her order on said, ” Government have issued orders that CCE for assessing academic achievement levels of children reflecting subject specific academic standards for curricular and co-curricular areas should be adopted in all schools which come under the purview of Schools Education. This is applicable to all management schools in the AP state”.
If implemented fully, the CCE brings about a radical change in evaluation system which is mostly examination centric till now. It would also increase the role and burden of teachers who now have to play a pivotal role in moulding the careers of lakhs of students.
According to Chukka Ramaih, eminent educationist ” Teacher’s honesty is very important in issue relating to the assessment of student. He/She should not only be thorough in his subject but unbiased in his assessment of the student, else, complaints of partition attitude would crop up.”
Such a scheme of CCE not only provides necessary feedback about the acquired levels of learning and areas of desired additional inputs for enhancement of learning in scholastic areas, it also lays equal emphasis on proficiency of learners in the acquisition of essential Life-Skills, attitudes and values, interests and achievement in outdoor co-curricular activities including sports and games.
It is hoped that due emphasis on development of necessary personality attributes and other Co-scholastic areas alongwith desired levels of attainment in the scholastic domain will certainly help the young learners grow into better human beings and will enable them to contribute meaningfully towards societal requirements and national expectations. Both the head and the heart have an equal role to play in the holistic development of an individual.
The Scheme of continuous and comprehensive evaluation has inbuilt flexibility for schools to plan their own academic schedule as per specified guidelines on CCE. The CCE helps the teacher to know the phase of development of competencies on one hand and personality traits on the other hand while assessing the child’s academic achievement levels, Evaluation is a powerful means of improving the quality of education. The CCE is completely through school based and teacher made test papers and not from external sources.
