NFSC 2021 is National Fellowship for SC Students. Apply Online for SC National Fellowship – The National Fellowship (NF) Scheme for Scheduled Caste is formulated and funded by Ministry of Social Justice &Empowerment.
The scheme is open to candidates who belong to Scheduled Caste and are pursuing higher studies such as regular and full time M.Phil. and Ph.D.degrees in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology.
There are 2000 slots for Scheduled Caste every year for all the subjects. 3% fellowships are reserved for Persons with Disabilities candidates belonging to SC categories as per provision laid down by the Government of India.
The objective of the National Fellowship for SC Students scheme is to provide five year fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students from SC categories, as notified by the Central Government to pursue higher studies such as M.Phil. and Ph.D. at Indian Universities/Institutions/Colleges as indicated below:
1). Universities/Institutions/Colleges included under section 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act.
2). Deemed to be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and eligible to receive grants-in-aid from UGC.
3). Universities/Institutions/Colleges funded by Central/State Government.
4). Institutes of National Importance.
National Fellowship scheme for Scheduled Caste Students is a Central Sector Scheme introduced during the financial year 2005-06 to provide opportunities to Scheduled Castes students for pursuing higher education leading to M.Phil/Ph.D degrees in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology streams.
The scheme provides for new 2000 Fellowships (1500 Junior Research Fellows for Humanities/ Social Sciences and 500 Junior Research Fellows for Science stream) per year to such Scheduled Caste students to undertake advanced studies and research leading to M.Phil/ Ph.D Degrees, who have qualified National Eligibility Test- Junior Research Fellowship (NET-JRF) of UGC (for Humanities/ Social Sciences ) or UGC-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (UGC-CSIR) NET–JRF joint test (for Science stream including Engineering & Technology).
UGC is the nodal agency for implementing the scheme and is responsible for laying down procedures/ guidelines for implementing the scheme, including selection of beneficiaries and disbursement of fellowships to selected candidates.
Eligibility National Fellowship for SC Students:
A candidate has to fulfil the following conditions to be eligible for award of this fellowship:
1). The candidate should belong to SC/ST and should have passed the Passed the Post Graduate Examination.
2). The Candidate must be registered for M.Phil./Ph.D.
3). Transgender candidates are eligible to apply under the scheme. The reservation shall be followed as per government of India norms.
Fellowships shall be awarded to SC candidates for pursuing regular and full time M.Phil./Ph.D. courses in Universities/Research Institutions recognized by UGC. Scheduled Castes candidates who have already secured admission and qualify NET examination will be given preference. In case sufficient candidates, who have already secured admission are not available, candidates who have not yet secured admission will also be selected in the order of merit in the NET examination.

Rates of fellowship:
The rates of fellowship for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF) will be at par with the UGC fellowships. The rates with effect from 01-12-2019 are as under:

House Rent Allowance (HRA) at the rate of 8%, 16% and 24% is allowed to those students who are not provided with hostel accommodation,in accordance with Govt. of India norms as applicable in the city/ location where the research fellows are working.
In case hostel accommodation offered by the university/institution is refused by the candidate, he/she will forfeit his/her claim of HRA. The other facilities such as medical facilities, leave including maternity leave will be governed as per the guidelines of UGC in case of their fellowship programme.
MEDICAL: No separate /fixed medical assistance is provided. However, the fellow may avail of the medical facilities available in the University/Institution/College.
