CBSE Rechecking Guidelines 2025
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has always strived for objective and error-free evaluations. However, acknowledging the possibility of human error, CBSE offers a robust system for students to address any discrepancies in their results.
CBSE has strengthened its post-result declaration facilities for the 2024-25 Class X and XII examinations, emphasizing greater transparency and student control.
Enhanced Transparency: A New Era for Students
This year, CBSE is introducing a significant change: students will now be directly provided with scanned answer books for their desired subjects.
This proactive step empowers students to meticulously review their own answer sheets and identify any potential mistakes. This enhanced transparency aims to give students a clearer understanding of their performance and the evaluation process.
The Three-Stage Process: A Step-by-Step Approach
The post-result declaration process for 2025 will follow a clear, sequential approach:
Step 1 – Request for Scanned Answer Book: The first crucial step is to request a scanned copy of the evaluated answer book(s) for the subjects you wish to review.
This allows you to see how your paper was evaluated and awarded marks. The fee for Class XII is Rs. 700/—per subject, and for Class X, it’s Rs. 500/—per subject.
- Class 12 Application Window: May 21, 2025 (Wednesday) to May 27, 2025 (Tuesday).
- Class 10 Application Window: May 27, 2025 (Tuesday) to June 02, 2025 (Monday).
Step 2 – Verification of Marks & Re-evaluation: Once you have the scanned copy, you can proceed to the second stage, which offers two options, or both:
a) Verification of Marks: This involves checking for discrepancies or errors in totaling marks or if any answers were unchecked.
The verification fee is Rs. 500/- per answer book. Only candidates who have applied for a photocopy of the evaluated answer book are eligible for this step.
b) Re-evaluation of Answer(s): If you believe marks have not been awarded correctly based on the marking scheme, you can apply for re-evaluation of specific questions. The fee is Rs. 100/- per question.
Only candidates who have applied for the photocopy of answer books are eligible for this step. For re-evaluation, you should refer to the marking scheme and question paper available on the CBSE website and clearly mention the mistakes with reasoning.
- Class 12 Application Window (Verification/Re-evaluation): May 28, 2025 (Wednesday) to June 03, 2025 (Tuesday).
- Class 10 Application Window (Verification/Re-evaluation): June 03, 2025 (Tuesday) to June 07, 2025 (Saturday).
Important General Guidelines to Remember:
Online Process Only: All requests and payments must be made online within the specified schedules. No offline applications will be accepted.
- Non-Refundable Fees: Processing fees at any step are non-refundable.
- Single Application: Only one application per candidate will be accepted for each step.
- Download the CBSE Class 12 and Class 10 Guidelines for the Request for Scanned Answer Book and Verification of Marks & Re-evaluation
Decide in advance if you need to apply for one or multiple subjects, as there will be no second opportunity.
Mark Changes: Be aware that marks can both increase and decrease, even by one mark. If marks change, you will need to surrender your old Mark Statement cum Certificate for a new one.
The Board’s Decision is Final: The board’s decision regarding awarded marks will be final and binding on the candidates.
RTI Act: A photocopy of the answer book(s) can be provided under the RTI Act, 2005, but requests for verification and/or re-evaluation cannot be made under the RTI Act.
CBSE’s revamped system reflects a commitment to fairness and accuracy. By understanding and utilizing these post-result facilities, students can ensure their academic achievements are accurately reflected.

CBSE Class X & XII Result Verification Process
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a significant change in the sequence of post-result activities for the upcoming Class X and XII examinations in 2025.
In a circular dated May 2nd, 2025, the board informed all affiliated schools about this crucial update, which aims to provide greater clarity and convenience to students seeking grievance redressal after their results are declared.
Previously, the post-result system followed a linear, three-step process:
- Verification of marks
- Obtaining a Photocopy of the evaluated answer book
- Re-evaluation
However, CBSE has decided to revise this sequence for the 2025 examinations. The new order of application will be:
- Obtaining a Photocopy of the evaluated answer book
- Verification of marks or revaluation or both
This change is a significant step as it empowers students to review their evaluated answer books first. By having access to the photocopies, candidates can gain a clear understanding of the marks awarded, specific comments from the examiners, and any potential errors.
Following this initial review, students can then make a more informed decision on whether to apply for:
Verification of marks: This involves checking for any errors in totaling marks or ensuring all questions have been evaluated.
- Re-evaluation: This allows candidates to request a re-evaluation of specific questions.
- Both Verification of marks and Re-evaluation: Students can apply for both processes if necessary after reviewing their answer book photocopy.
The CBSE believes that this revised system will give students more transparency and a better understanding of their results before they opt for further scrutiny.
While the board has announced this change in sequence, the detailed procedures and timelines for applying for the Photocopy of evaluated answer books, Verification of marks, and Re-evaluation for the Class X and XII Examinations 2025 will be released after the results are declared.
Principals and Heads of all CBSE-affiliated schools are requested to take note of this important change and disseminate the information to students and parents.
Stay tuned for further updates and detailed guidelines regarding the CBSE Class X and XII results and the post-result activities.
