The Yuva Vigyani Karyakram Program is primarily aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to the younger ones with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of space activities.
The YUVIKA program is aimed at creating awareness about the emerging trends in science and technology amongst the youngsters who are the future building blocks of our nation.
This also expected to encourage more students to pursue in Science, Technology, Engineering and – Mathematics (STEM) based research/ career.
Indian Space Research Organization, ISRO is going to organise the Young Scientist Programme 2023 or Yuva Vigyani Karyakram (YUVIKA) 2023 this year also.
The programme was organized last year to encourage scientific curiosity in the school children to which it received an overwhelming response. This year also, ISRO is planning a phase 2 of the same programme in extension to last year’s YUVIKA 2019.

Who can Apply for Young Scientist Programme?
All students who have completed their 8th and are currently pursuing 9th grade are eligible to apply for the programme. The students can belong to CBSE, ICSE or any state board that is recognised by the Government of India.
Class 8 and Class 10 students are not eligible to apply for the exam. Also, 60% weightage will be given to candidate’s 8th standard marks, his/her NCC participation, his/her district or state level participations etc. Moreover, 15% benefit will be available to all rural children.

Application Process for the ISRO Young Scientist Programme 2023
The application process for the ISRO Young Scientist Programme 2023 is entirely online. Interested students can visit the official website of ISRO and fill in the application form. The application form requires the following details:

This is in tune with the Government’s vision “Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan”. The Program is primarily aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to the younger ones with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of space activities.
The program is thus aimed at creating awareness about the emerging trends in science and technology amongst the youngsters who are the future building blocks of our nation. This also expected to encourage more students to pursue in Science, Technology, Engineering and – Mathematics (STEM) based research/career.
The programme will be of around two weeks duration during summer holidays and the schedule will include invited talks, experience sharing by the eminent scientists, facility and lab visits, exclusive sessions for discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions.
It is proposed to select 3 students from each State/ Union Territory to participate in this programme every year. Those who have finished 8th standard and currently studying in 9th standard will be eligible for the programme. The selection should be based on the following criteria. In case there is a tie between the selected candidates, the younger candidates to be given priority.
Selection Procedure:
- Performance in the 8th Std Examination = 50%
- Membership of Science Club/Space Club = 5%
- Prize in any school-based individual extracurricular activity= 2/4/6/10% (Elocution/Debate/Essay Writing, science quiz, computer modelling, scientific prototype model making, etc.,) at District/State/National/ International Level (The higher level will be considered for weightage)
- Winners of District/State/National/International Level _ sports activities (The higher level will be considered for weightage) = 2/4/6/10%
- Scouts and Guides/NCC/NSS Member = 5%
- Studying in Village/Rural School (Certificate of proof to this effect to be produced from the head of the school Criteria: The school, where the candidate is studying should be located in Panchayath Area) = 20%
