NMMS Scholarship Scheme – The Centrally Sponsored National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme was launched in May, 2008 after getting approval from CCEA with the objective to award scholarships to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to arrest their drop out at class VIII and encourage them to continue the study at secondary stage. One lakh scholarships of Rs.6000/- per annum (Rs.500/- per month) per student are awarded to selected students every year for study in classes from IX to XII in Government, Government-aided and local body schools under the scheme. There is quota of scholarships for different States/UTs.
ORDER : In the reference 3rd read above, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of India, New Delhi decided under Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act 2014, the division / apportionment of the allotted quota of National Means-cum-Merit Scholarships (NMMS) of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State between newly created States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, as following,
(i) | Andhra Pradesh State | 4087 scholarships (58.32%) |
(ii) | Telangana State | 2921 scholarships (41.68%) |
The Director of Government Examinations, Telangana, Hyderabad has stated that the quota of 2921(Two Thousand, Nine Hundred and Twenty One) scholarships have to be re-allocated District wise and community wise based on weightages recommended by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi, as follows:
a) | 66.67% of weightage to be given to enrolment of students in Classes VII and VIII. | 1947 |
b) | 33.33% of weightage to be givento the population of children of relative age group of 12 and 13 years | 974 |

The Director of Government Examinations, Telangana, Hyderabad has requested the Government to issue standing orders to finalise the National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship scheme merit list for November 2014 Examination as recommended by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi, and also to re-distribute the category-wise scholarships as per the existing State Reservation Norms.
The Director of Government Examinations has also informed that the G.O.Ms.No.3, Backward Classes Welfare (OP) Department, dated 14.08.2014 shall be implemented from the next examination.
After careful examination of the proposal, Government hereby permit the Director of Government Examinations, Telangana, Hyderabad to follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi and to adopt the existing State Reservation norms for declaration of the results for the examination conducted on November, 2014.
The Director of Government Examinations shall follow the following reservation norms for the next examination to be conducted, while following all the other existing norms:
