The AP 8th Class Maths syllabus is based on the structural approach, laying emphasis on the discovery and understanding of basic mathematical concepts and generalisations. The approach is to encourage the pupils to participate, discuss and take an active part in the classroom processes.
The present 8th maths textbook has been written on the basis of curriculum and Academic standards emerged after a thorough review of the curriculum prepared by the SCERT. The syllabus has been divided broadly into six areas namely, (1) Number System, (2) Algebra, (3) Arithmetic, (4) Geometry, (5) Mensuration and (6) Data Handling.
Teaching of the topics related to these areas will develop the skills prescribed in academic standards such as problem solving, logical thinking, mathematical communication, representing data in various forms, using mathematics as one of the disciplines of study and also in daily life situations.
The 8th maths text book attempts to enhance this endeavor by giving higher priority and space to opportunities for contemplations. There is a scope for discussion in small groups and activities required for hands on experience in the form of ‘Do this’ and ‘Try this’. The Government of Andhra Pradesh has unleashed a new era in school education by introducing extensive curricular reforms from the academic year 2022-23. The Government has taken up curricular reforms intending to enhance the learning outcomes of the children with focus on building solid foundational learning and to build up an environment conducive for an effective teaching-learning process.
To achieve this objective, The Government of A.P has adopted NCERT curriculum from Class 8th to reach the global standards. To enrich the content of the subject QR codes are incorporated in the beginning of each lesson to enable learning outside the classroom.
In this 8th class physics textbook, lessons are prepared based on the themes like Materials, Moving things, How things work, People and ideas, Natural Phenomena and Natural resources are incorporated under Physical Science. In order to reinforce the concepts, several projects and activities are given to inculcate scientific temperament.
Each lesson is provided with eye catching illustrations to engage the children. The key vocabulary of the lessons are included under “Key Words” and the salient features of the lessons are given under the title “What you have learnt” for the review of the important concepts.
Questions are framed for each lesson to recapitulate the conceptual understanding and to achieve competencies required for project works, drawings and model makings under “Exercises”. An effort has been made to relate the scientific concepts with the real-life events thereby developing and promoting scientific temperament in “Extended Learning – Activities and Projects”.

In this 8th Class Social Textbook, we have tried to adopt an integrated approach for social studies concepts. This is in continuation with the National and State Curriculum Frameworks which suggested disciplinary approach to teaching needs to begin only at Secondary school level. You have traditionally taught various disciplines of History, Economics, Civics and Geography.
However there were various overlaps between the concepts that were discussed under them. This textbook brings together six themes under as you will have noted in the content page of the book, under which various concepts are discussed. 8th Social Textbook is designed with the idea that social studies teachers and students need to bring it into the classroom and use it inside the classroom for learning.
It is important to read the textbook in classroom and conduct discussion around it. The language of the text: Efforts have been taken to write the text of this book in child friendly manner. However there are certain terms and jargons that will need explanation and clarification. Govt has moved away from writing text that is information loaded. Text is often trying to give examples that may be suitable to the concept that is discussed.
Each chapter has central ideas, these are often provided as subheadings. In a classroom, you may be able to cover 2 or 3 subheading in a period roughly. This textbook uses different style of writing. Sometimes they are fictionalised narratives like Kiran and Sarita in Chapter 9. These are often fictionalised but based on facts explanation of a scenario. Or there are passages that are in the form of case studies like in section on Singareni Coal Fields in Chapter 6.
There are also texts in the tables where comparative elements are put together as in the case of Law making Powers in Chapter 14. Concepts are thus explained using different language styles. Use of in between questions and end text questions: You will note that there are questions in between the text. Do not leave out these questions.
These are integral to the teaching learning process. These questions are of different types – some of them help you in summarising, evaluating the passages that you may have read out. Or they are for collecting more information that is around the concepts discussed in the previous subheading. Do not try to dictate the answers to these questions, allow children to find the answers on their own. Allow them to have discussions amongst each other in trying to figure out the meaning of these questions and talk about possible answers.
