Class 3 Handbooks 2023: You know that English is one of the most important languages in the World. English is important because it is the only language that links the whole world together. Because of the visible impact of this presence of English, it is today demanded by everyone at the initial stage of schooling.
Sensing the importance of the language at different levels and perspectives, the government of India and the government of Andhra Pradesh have been taking various measures to introduce English at the grassroot level. Recently, there is a demand to run government English schools by providing English as a medium of instruction.
You have been teaching English probably for a long time. You may be following certain methods for teaching the language. Now, our state has proposed with curriculum change with drastically different conceptualization of language and language learning.
The state curriculum frame work 2011 has defined the academic standards for each level which cover all the areas. The completion of the textbook is not the ultimate goal of teaching English but achieving the targeted academic standards. In order to achieve these goals a meticulous transaction process has to be worked out in tune with the current understanding of language and language learning.

These subject wise Class 3 handbooks are meant to throw insight into some of the major aspects related to the teaching of English, Telugu, Maths and EVS. These include: 1. Class specific Annual Plans for class 3, 4, and 5. 2. Model Unit plans for class 3, 4, and 5. 3. Period plan / classroom transaction for class 3, 4, and 5. 4. Innovative English teaching methods and strategies. 5. Evaluation. 6. Bibliographies for class 3, 4, and 5.
The classroom process and the nature of interaction that has to be taken place. The process facilitating the production of oral and written discourses. Different genres of discourses and their features. Interactions cut across all these modules and become a vital component of classroom transaction.
Interaction is conceived not as mere asking questions and eliciting responses but as a meaningful learning atmosphere. The teacher should have good understanding of the purpose of interaction at various stages and the exact language that is to be used to meet this purpose.
Knowledge is not conceived as an individual activity alone. It is a collective process where individuals collaborate and build knowledge. There is a process of collaboration where learners share their ideas and learning experiences with their peers exploring new ideas.
The classroom should also function as child centric; activity based learning get the scaffolding and collaborative learning. Holistically it should be knowledge centric. Considering all the levels of the learners the classroom process should have strategies for addressing the issues of low proficient learners.
So to address these challenges every stage of classroom transaction is taken with extreme care to ensure that they feel included in the process of learning. Some activities have been given to bridge the gap between expected levels and their present levels.We expect that the teachers across the state will find this handbook useful to follow the classroom process suggested in it.
