If students cannot take exams on all subjects at once, they can opt for NIOS, which allows them to take exams two times a year, selecting only a few subjects, not all courses.

This way, a learner can take exams of all subjects individually. NIOS’s main objective is to maintain the quality of education for Open and Distance learning programs and make them powerful through research and development activities.

NIOS provides open schooling at the national and global levels and shares resources and study material, just like CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations), and other boards.

The value of NIOS-passed candidates is equivalent to that of these boards (in India and abroad). NIOS has multichannel delivery modes for transactions to select courses and programs.

NIOS is also under the Ministry of Human Resource Development of India. It provides technical and financial support to the State Government for setting up and scaling up SOS (State Open Schools).
