NMMS Registration 2023 or NMMS Scholarship Registration 2023 has been activated for the students who have qualified in the National Means cum Merit Scholarship examination for the fresh registration and renewal registration process on its National Scholarship Portal, https://scholarships.gov.in/.
National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) offers a scholarship of up to Rs.12, 000 per year to 1 lakh students for the purpose of assisting them to continue their secondary school education. NMMS qualified Students, institutes can apply online on National Scholarship Portal till the below mentioned deadline.

As mentioned, the scholarship is given to assist the students of economically weaker sections. The purpose of the scholarship is to stop dropping out of schools after Class 8 due to lack of funds. To help meritorious students, one lakh fresh scholarships are awarded each year to students of Class 9 every year for continuation of their education or renewal of their education in Classes 10 to 12.
To be eligible, the students’ parental income should not be more than Rs. 3, 50, 000 per annum. Students must be studying in State Government, Government aided or local body schools and must have a minimum of 55% marks in their Class 7 examination (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students).
Eligible candidates who are qualified in the NMMS examination can apply online on the Fresh Applications section of National Scholarship Portal. Institutes are encouraged to inform the meritorious students and help them to apply online on the NSP.
No documents have to be uploaded at the time of application. Once application is complete, documents have to be verified at the local administrative level. Two level verification process. First level is at the Institute Nodal Office or INO Level and the second level of verification is at the District Nodal Officer or DNO level. Applications are invited from the NMMS Exam qualified candidates for getting NMMS National Scholarships. Eligible and Qualified candidates should apply at NSP Web Portal with required details for National Merit cum Means Scholarships (NMMS) offered by the Central Government.
Students, those who have qualified in the NMMS examinations conducted in November 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 for renewal and those who qualify in the NMMS exam in November are newly apply on the website https://scholarships.gov.in/. Applying means renewal and fresh registrations deadline is 31 October .
The NMMSS scholarships are awarded to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to arrest their drop out at Class 8 and encourage them to continue their education at secondary stage. One lakh fresh scholarships are awarded to selected students from Class 9 every year and their continuation/ renewal in Classes 9 to 12 for students studying in State Government, Government-aided and local body schools. The scholarship amount is Rs 12,000 per annum.

NMMS beneficiaries Registration 2023
- The Central Government has set up a National Scholarship Portal and modified the scholarships to be given only if the beneficiary are registered.
- Candidates selected on merit in the NMMS examination must register their name in the relevant Scholarship portal.
- Schools / colleges must approve their student details by 21 October .
- The DEOs have to approve them.
Fresh Registration: The Union Ministry of Education has imposed a new rule requiring all students who are selected in the NMMS examinations conducted in February for the year 2023 to register on the National Scholarships portal https://scholarships.gov.in by November 15 this year. It made it clear that scholarships would no longer be granted to those who did not register.
Renewal Registration: Students who were selected in the years 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and every student who were registered on the portal last year and received a scholarship must register for renewal this year as well on the National Scholarships portal https://scholarships.gov.in by November 15 this year. For those who do not, they will not receive a scholarship in the near future.
Students are advised to register on the portal and check whether their application has been approved by the school and DEO offices. For other information regarding scholarships, visit the State Government Examinations Office website. DEO offices can also be contacted.
Update Bank Details of NSIGSE Beneficiary Girls
Government of India, Ministry of Education, Department of School Education & Literacy (Secondary Scholarship Division) has instructed to all states officials on the National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE) supply of data for maturity payments
Under the Centrally Sponsored NSIGSE of the Ministry of Education, the proposal of academic years 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 have been sanctioned under the NSIGSE Scheme. The NSIGSE beneficiary girls of these academic years have not been received/ partially received with bank details of the beneficiary girls so far for transfer of maturity incentive payments despite earlier requests in this regard.
The Ministry is unable to transfer the incentive amount into the accounts of beneficiary girls for want of this information. The ministry has requested to furnish the information about passing out in class X by beneficiary girls along with their bank account number & IFSC code of the academic year 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 in the prescribed proforma in soft copy of this Ministry immediately for making maturity payments to them. – BSE Telangana Proceedings on NSIGSE.
Steps to complete the NMMS Scholarship Registration
The National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme registration or NMMS Scholarship registration will be started by the Department of School Education & Literacy under Ministry of Education on behalf of Government of India. Candidates who have qualified in the NMMS examination can now apply under fresh registration and already registered candidates can now apply for renewal registration on the official website of National Scholarship Portal scholarships.gov.in till the deadline.

Once you reach the NSP portal, you can click on the tap on the Department of School Education & Literacy tab or DSEL Tab on the home page under Central Scheme Section.

NMMS Renewal and New registrations
Students who qualify for the NMMS exam in November 2023 will have to register and upload only as per the details in the merit list at https://scholarships.gov.in to get the scholarship for 2022-23. Eligible candidates in NMMS 2016, NMMS 2017, NMMS 2018, NMMS 2019 (NMMS Beneficiaries) should be taken on the basis of ‘previous-classes’ pass percentage for renewal. The last date for NMMS Beneficiaries renewal and new registrations is 30 October.
Students do not require any documents to be uploaded on the portal while applying to the scholarship. Candidates need to carry an income certificate of parent/guardian issued by the competent authority and caste certificate.
The renewal criteria for the scholarship has been revised to getting minimum 60 per cent marks in class 10 for continuation of scholarship in higher classes. It requires a clear promotion in classes 9 and 11 in the first attempt itself. It is relaxable by 5 per cent for SC, ST candidates.

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) Registrations Schedule: The Schedule of opening of National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for this Academic Year. Familiarize the Head Masters first and then the students i.e. NMMSS beneficiaries through Head Masters concerned in this regard immediately without fail and complete the said work in time. Otherwise the said beneficiaries will never get scholarship under NMMS Scheme and give compliance to this office. Regular report in this regard is requested.
At the time of verification of online submitted applications of NMMSS beneficiaries on NSP some of the institutions and District Educational Officers have verified the non-beneficiaries whose names are not found in list of NMMSS beneficiaries which was already communicated to you by this office.
Due to such kind of verification the number of verified candidates will exceed quota of the beneficiaries and genuine beneficiaries may lose the opportunity of getting scholarship as non-beneficiaries will get opportunity of getting scholarship in place beneficiaries which is highly irregular and injustice.
Take more care in the verification process for renewals as well as fresh on NSP to verify the beneficiaries only and either to reject the non-beneficiaries or to put them in defective mode which ever option is applicable and give strict instructions to the heads of the institutions to verify beneficiaries only and not to accept non-beneficiaries. The work pertaining to verification of National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) beneficiaries’ data through online by the Head of the Institutions and District Educational Officers is not yet completed and the NSP portal is going to be closed by Government of India without any further extension.
The Head of the Institutions concerned to complete the above said work i.e. verification of NMMS beneficiaries’ data through NSP. If any school is not having internet facility, instruct the Head of the Institutions to utilize the net facility available at Mandal· Resource Centers / District Educational Offices to complete the said work. The District Educational Officers are requested to verify the beneficiaries’ data in the DEO Login within three days.
Uploading the NMMS beneficiaries’ data through National Scholarship Portal is time bound and the Special Chief Secretary to the Government, School Education Department, Hyderabad is reviewing the day to day progress of the work.
Who can avail the NMMS Scholarship?
Students whose parental income are not over Rs 3,50,000 per annum. The students must have minimum of 55 percent marks in Class 8 exam for appearing in the selection test to get scholarships. The reserved category candidates (SC/ ST) will get 5 percent relaxation.
Who can register for the NMMS Scholarship?
Students who were qualified in the state level NMMS Examination are eligible to register for the NMMS Scholarship at National Scholarship Portal, scholarships.gov.in under the beneficiaries registration and renewal registration till the above said deadline.
