State Project Director, Samagra Shiskha, Telangana State has given detailed instruction on READ Programme 2023 implementation in TS Schools across the State through Proceedings Rc. No. 2710, Dated: 03-0202023. All the HMs, Teachers who are working in Telangana School can check details and download the READ Program guidelines from this web page.

READ Programme has been designed by School Education Department, Telangana State under 100 days Reading Campaign 2023. The Read, Enjoy and Development Programme would be started in all Schools from February 5th to end of this academic year for children who are studying in to Class 1 to Class 9.

The Reading Campaign details are provided here. In continuation of this office proceedings Proceedings Rc. No. 2710, dated: 10-01-2023, all the District Educational Officers in the State are informed that as per the guidelines given by the GOI, Ministry of Education, New Delhi 100-days Reading Campaign has to be organized in all the schools duly taking up the week wise activities.

Details of READ Programme

In this connection the District Educational Officers are informed that in order to conduct the 100-days Reading Campaign programme week-wise activities in the schools, the brief READ Programme guidelines in Telugu are enclosed to this proceedings for their ready reference. They are requested to follow these guidelines along with the GOI guidelines already communicated vide 2710 Proceedings.

Further the DEOs are informed that due to increasing of Covid-19 cases in the State and keeping in view the health of the students, Govt. of Telangana has extended the Sankaranti holidays up to 30.01.2023 Vide GO.4 Dated: 16-01-2023. As per the latest instructions given by the Government vide memo 5536, dated: 29-10-2023, the schools have been opened from 01.02.2023. As such the following instructions are issued once again to all the District Educational Officers in the State along with certain additional guidelines in Telugu to take up the activities in the Schools from Classes 1 to 9 with effect from 5th February, 2023 to till the end of this academic year.

  • Reading Campaign has to be conducted for Classes I to IX.
  • Reading Campaign will be conducted for First language (Telugu/Urdu) English and Hindi.
  • Reading habit shall be promoted by encouraging reading in regular Teaching Learning Process and by encouraging children to read Library books.

Further DEOs requested to implement the program in true spirit and furnish data to this office every Saturday evening through mail to pedagogy.ts@gmail.com in the following proforma. The CRPs should visit the schools every week and collect the information, photos and videos from H.Ms and submit the same to the MEOs for enabling them to consolidate and furnish to DEOs ,in turn DEOs will furnish the same to this office in the following proforma.

Telangana has launched the 100-day reading campaign in all schools. With an objective to inculcate reading habit along with increasing basic competencies of reading among children and make them independent readers, the School Education department is all set to kick start a 100-day Reading campaign for students of Classes 1 to 9 in all schools in the State from February 5.

As part of the READ (Read, Enjoy and Develop) programme, all teachers should ensure students read age-appropriate books in the school library every day. Besides, all schools must allocate one library period daily for each class.

The schools have also been instructed to form a committee comprising of five students for each class in the high school and a single committee for the primary school. The committee has been tasked to monitor the library reading habits among students besides issuing books to the students and maintaining record of the same. It has also been asked to display a list of fluent readers in the classroom so as to encourage other students.

  • The library week will be organised in all schools from February 14 to 21 and
  • Mother Language Day will be celebrated on February 21.
  • The schools have been instructed to conduct a reading competition every Saturday and
  • reading festival every month involving parents, community members and School Management Committee.

While Mana Ooru-Mana Badi programme will develop and strengthen infrastructure in government schools, this campaign will help improve the reading and learning skills of the students which will eventually improve the quality of education.

    Telangana school education department has decided to launch a 100 days reading campaign for students of Classes 1 to 9 in the state from February 5. The objective of the campaign is to instill reading habits as well as to improve basic reading skills among students.
