The Ministry of HRD is implementing Saksham Scholarship Scheme through the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to provide encouragement and support to 1000 differently-abled students to pursue technical education in a year.

The amount of scholarship is a tuition fee of Rs.30000/- or at actual, whichever is less and Rs. 2000/- per month for l0 months as incidentals. This scholarship is for those differently-abled students whose family income is less than Rs Six lakhs per annum.

Saksham is a MHRD Scheme being implemented by of AICTE aimed at providing encouragement and support to specially abled children to pursue Technical Education.

This is an attempt to give every young student, who is otherwise specially abled, the opportunity to study further and prepare for a successful future through technical education/knowledge.

Scholarship Alert – AICTE Saksham Scholarship Scheme 2020-21: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)would be invited online applications through National Scholarship Portal for AICTE-Saksham Scholarship Scheme 2020-21 from differently-abled students pursuing technical degree/ diploma courses from recognized institutions.

The students who are already availing this scholarship can also apply for renewal of the same.

The aim of this scholarship is to promote technical education by offering financial assistance to specially-abled students for continuation of their professional studies.

The scholarship is open for specially-abled students having a disability of not less than 40%. They must be admitted to the first year of degree/diplo- ma level course or second year of degree/diploma level course through lateral entry in any of the AICTE approved institution.

Saksham Scholarship 2020 Details

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) annually offers scholarships under the name ‘Saksham’ to Divyanga students pursuing technical education.

Everyone with the specified qualifications is eligible for this. Those selected will be paid at the rate of Rs.50,000 per annum. Diploma is offered for three years for academics and four years for engineering. Diploma in Lateral Entry or two years in Diploma in Engineering and three years in Engineering.

The scholarship amount is deposited in the bank account of the candidates annually. Bank account and Aadhaar card are mandatory for this. It can be used for fees, accommodation, books, computer etc. These will be continued for subsequent years based on the talents shown in the previous year’s study.

Eligibility

Eligibility for Saksham Scholarships: The candidate should be admitted to first year of Degree/Diploma level course OR Second year of Degree/Diploma course through lateral entry in any of the AICTE approved Institution of respective year.

Specially Abled Students, having disability of not less than 40%.

Family income from all sources is not more than Rs. 8 lakh per annum during the current financial year. A valid income certificate issued by State/UT Government need to be enclosed.

  • 1. Differently Abled Students having equal or more than 40% disability.
  • 2. Family income should be less than Rs. 8 Lakhs per Annum.
  • 3. Students Admitted in UG Degree Level Programme/Course in AICTE Approved Institutions.
  • 4. The students admitted in first year of their Degree Course OR Second year of Degree course through lateral entry (LE) in any of the AICTE approved Institution of respective year.
  • 5. Rs 50,000 per annum for every year of study i.e. maximum 4 years for Degree for first year admitted students and maximum 3 years for Degree students admitted through lateral entry as lump sum amount towards payment of college fee, computer purchase, stationery, books, Equipment, Software’s purchase etc. No other additional grant will be payable in lieu of hostel charges and medical charges etc.

Number of Scholarships

Number of Saksham Scholarships: All eligible specially abled student admitted to first year of Degree/Diploma level course OR Second year of Degree/Diploma course through lateral entry in any of the AICTE approved Institution will get the scholarship.

Scholarship Amount

Amount of Saksham Scholarship: Rs 50,000 per annum for every year of study i.e. maximum 4 years for Degree and 3 years for Diploma for first year admitted students and maximum 3 years for Degree and 2 years for Diploma for second year admitted students through lateral entry as lump sum amount towards payment of college fee, computer purchase, stationery, books, Equipment, Software’s purchase etc. No other additional grant will be payable in lieu of hostel charges and medical charges etc.

No documentary proof need to be attached for the above while availing benefits.

Scholarship Amount Payment

Mode of Sakham Scholarship: After selection, the awardee will be paid scholarship through DBT mode on annual basis.

Renewals

Renewals of Sakham Scholarship: The scholarship will be renewed for the next year of study on receipt of renewal through National Scholarship Portal by submitting passing certificate/ marksheet along with letter from the Head of Institution in the online portal. 2) Student failing to get promoted to the next class/ level would forfeit the scholarship.

The candidates will be selected on merit at the qualifying examination to pursue technical education from amongst such candidates. The other criteria are that the candidates should have been admitted to the first year of the Degree or Diploma program in any of the AICTE approved institutes during the academic year 2014-15 through the centralized admission process of the State/Central Government.

The Saksham Scholarship Scheme has been launched on 11th November 2014, and till now 84 differently-abled students have applied for scholarship under the scheme to date.

How to apply

How to apply for Sakham Scholarship: The candidate fulfilling the eligibility conditions is required to apply online on National Scholarship Portal (NSP) after initiation of application process and notice to be published on AICTE website.

The host institution where the candidate is studying is required to verify the online application

Department of Technical Education (DTE) of respective State/ UT will verify these applications as second level of scrutiny.

Rules

Rules for Sakham Scholarship Scheme:

  • Applications will be invited once in a year through National e-Scholarship Portal of the Government of India.
  • Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected. Only verified online applications will be considered for the award of scholarship.
  • If a candidate failed/ drop out in subsequent year, she will not be eligible for further scholarship.
  • Scheme will be implemented and monitored by the AICTE.
  • For converting CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average ) to percentage, multiplying factor will be 9.5 i.e. to convert the CGPA into percentage, CGPA X 9.5 will give the percentage.
  • In case both CGPA & Total marks are given in the mark sheet, total marks will be considered for determining percentage.
  • If grades are given like A1, A2, B1, B2 etc in the mark sheet, first the grades will be converted into CGPA and then average CGPA will be calculated. This CGPA will be converted into percentage as given in point No. 2.
  • Provisional list of shortlisted candidates will be uploaded on the AICTE web portal. In case, candidate has any query about merit list of scholarship, they may raise their grievances within a month. No query regarding merit list will be entertained after one-month duration.
