PMSS 2023: Prime Ministers Scholarship Scheme by Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB)

Prime Ministers Scholarship Scheme 2023 or PMSS 2023 for the academic year 2023 notification has bee released, Eligible students who are dependent wards of Central Armed Police Forces, Assam Rifles and State Police personnel or RPF/RPSF may apply online by the deadline. The scheme is applicable only to students enrolled in professional courses in the academic year 2023 .

Applications are invited from eligible ex-servicemen ward / widows and ex-Indian Coast Guard personnel as per the scheme documents available in RSBs / ZSBS for continuation of professional degree courses. Students are requested to visit the PMSS web link to read the checklist, FAQ and other information at the Central Military Board website www.ksb.gov.in before applying online to avoid applications being rejected.

Students should apply online mode only. Paper application will not be allowed. Students must apply by this date to avoid last minute congestion. This Scholarship is for widows / ex-servicemen (Army / Navy / Air Force / Coast Guard) widows only. Not applicable to ordinary citizens.

Govt Of India Ministry Of Defence, Kendriya Sainik Board has given the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme notification and Applications are invited from the dependent wards / widows of Ex- servicemen and Ex-Indian Coast Guard personnel pursuing Professional Degree Courses, duly recognized by the respective government regulatory bodies such as MCI, AICTE and UGC etc.

Govt. of India Ministry of Defence, Kendriya Sainik Board Secretariat (Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare) invites applications for the scholarship under the PMSS from the dependent wards / widows of Ex-servicemen and Ex-Indian Coast Guard personnel pursuing Professional Degree Courses, duly recognized by the respective government regulatory bodies such as MCI, AICTE and UGC etc. Only those candidates who have joined the Professional Courses in this academic year may apply.

Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme Details

Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme was introduced from the Academic year 2006-07. To encourage higher technical and professional education for the dependent wards of Ex Servicemen / Ex Coast Guard personnel and their widows (below officer rank only) and dependent wards / widows of Ex Servicemen / Ex Coast Guard personnel who died / disabled in harness due to causes attributable to Military Service / Coast Guard Service, irrespective of the rank. A total number of 4000 students will be selected Students for Prime Minister’s Scholarships are available.

New Course included for PMSS Fresh Application

  • B.E (Lateral Entry) – 3 Years
  • B.Tech (Lateral Entry) – 3 Years
  • MCA (Lateral Entry) – 3 Years

Eligible for Scholarship:

  • Students who have taken admission in 2023 are only eligible to apply for PMSS 2023. Students should have scored 60% and above in Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ) i.e., 10+2 / Diploma / Graduation.
  • Students who are Dependent Wards / Widows of Ex Servicemen & Ex Coast Guard personnel who died in harness / disabled due to causes attributable to military service / coast guard service, irrespective of the rank.
  • Dependent wards of Ex Servicemen / Ex Coast Guard personnel and their widows (below officer rank only).

Eligible Courses:

Professional Degree Courses like BE, B Tech, BDS, MBBS, B Ed, BBA, BCA, B Pharma, etc. duly recognized by the respective Government Regulatory Bodies, such as All India Council for Technical Education, Medical Council of India, UGC. (Master Degree Courses are not eligible for PMSS except MBA, MCA).

Students can see the list of eligible courses for details. Students studying abroad are not eligible for this scheme. Students getting stipend for the Professional Degree Courses are also not entitled. No distance learning course is permitted under PMSS. PMSS can be availed for one course only.

Scholarship for Integrated Courses:

  • The facility under PMSS is restricted for Professional Degree Course only, such as B Ed but not for BA+B Ed, also for LLB not for BA+LLB. In case of integrated ME / M Tech / M Pharma initial four years scholarship will be given.
  • Selection Procedure: Applications will be shortlisted based on Ex Servicemen / Ex Coast Guard category (as given below in Para 7) and percentage of marks obtained in MEQ.
  • Duration of Scholarship: Two to five years as duration of the course approved by the concerned Regulatory Body (Except one year for B Ed).
  • Amount of Scholarship: The amount of scholarship would be as follows: (a) Rs. 2000/- per month for boys (b) Rs. 2250- per month for girls Paid annually after selection.
  • How to Apply For Scholarship: Candidates may apply through online mode at national scholarships portal.

How to apply for Prime Ministers Scholarship 2023?

Students who are dependent wards of Central Armed Police Forces, Assam Rifles, RPF/RPSF and State Police personnel are aware of the scholarships that are available on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP portal) and students fulfil the eligibility conditions specified, students can apply for them online. The given steps to be followed for making a successful application on the portal.

  1. Visit the scholarships.gov.in Website

    Students need to visit the official website of the NSP portal, https://scholarships.gov.in in your device browser.

  2. Click on New User? Register Link

    Once you reach the official website, you click on the New User Registration link on the home page. Applicant should read and understood the guidelines for registration. After tick on the radio buttons, you can click on the Click on the Continue button.

  3. Fill the Fresh Registration Form

    After clicking on that link, a Fresh Registration form would be opened. Now, Select the Post Matric / MC/ Top Class for Class 11, 12, UG, PG etc., from the Scholarship Category and Select Scholarship Scheme if you want to apply for Scholarships OR Select Incentive Scheme if you want to apply for any incentive scheme and fill the form with required information and click on the register button.

  4. Click on Login to Apply Link

    After completion of new registration process, student will get a unique application ID and password through SMS on the provided (registered) mobile number. Now, you can click on the Login to Apply link on the home page. Then, Login for Fresh Application web page will appear in your device.

  5. Enter Login details

    In the login web page, student shall login to NSP using application ID and password which were received at the time of registration process and click on the login button. Here, the student must change the password upon first login. This password has to be kept safely and confidentially. The student can change the mobile number only before the first login, i.e. before changing the received password.

  6. Click on the Application Form link

    After clicking on the login button, an applicant dashboard will open. Now, click on the ‘Application Form’ to proceed with the scholarship application.

  7. Fill the Application Form

    After clicking on the application form link, application form web page will appear. The Application Form is divided into three Parts, i.e., Registration Details, Academic Details, Basic Details. Student should fill in all required details in the application form and Upload all supporting documents with the application form. Finally, click on the ‘Final Submit’ button.

  8. Print the Application Form


    After clicking on the submit button, your application will be submitted successfully. Now, print and save application form further reference.

Step to Apply For PMSS Scholarship?

Application to be filled ONLINE by visiting KSB website www.ksb.gov.in. Hard copy / paper application will not be entertained.

  • First of all, ESM / Widow / Orphan visit Kendriya Sainik Board website www.ksb.gov.in and register themselves with KSB website.
  • After registration, login ID, password and a link will be automatically generated by system and sent to your Email mentioned in registration part-I.
  • Login to email ID which you have registered and click on the link which have been sent by KSB.
  • Now you will be taken to login page of KSB.
  • Click on PMSS tab under which three options will be displayed i.e., General Instructions, New Application & Renewal Application.

  6. Is there any provision to apply for PMSS in Second year of professional degree course?

    No, student has to apply in first year (except lateral entry and integrated courses) of professional degree course only. Students who have taken admission between 01 Apr to 15 Nov are only eligible to apply for PMSS.

  7. Are diploma courses eligible for PMSS?

    No, only professional degree courses recognized by a central regulatory body such as AICTE, MCI etc are eligible for PMSS.

  8. Are PG Courses allowed for PMSS?

    Only MBA/Management and MCA are allowed for PMSS. No other PG courses are allowed for PMSS.

  9. Are B.Sc B.Ed integrated Courses eligible for PMSS?

    Yes, these courses are integrated and eligible but scholarship will be paid only for the portion of B.Ed i.e. 2 years only

  10. Is PMSS courses conducted abroad are eligible for PMSS?

    No, PMSS is applicable to the students who are studying in India only.

  11. If a student has already availed PMSS in the past, can he again apply for PMSS?

    No. PMSS is allowed for one course only.

  12. If a student does not pass, then will he/she get the scholarship amount in subsequent year?

    The student has to score 50% marks in each semester / academic year, then only he/she will get his/her PM scholarship amount. Failing to score 50% marks or get RA/fail in any subject / semester or in any academic year, his / her scholarship to be closed forever.

  13. Can I send physical application for award of PMSS?

    No. Only apply online on KSB website www.ksb.gov.in.

  14. How long will I get scholarship?

    Scholarship is awarded for entire duration of course except the internship.
